I enjoy helping individuals/couples/families and believe that everyone has hope for a better future. Counseling just helps healthy people stay healthy. I offer many approaches to counseling and family therapy, I find that using biofeedback/neurofeedback in conjunction with talk therapy is the most effective.

I strive to help people move in the direction of growth and healing. I have a passion for working with people to overcome past traumas. To help them see that there is hope for healing and that they can have a joyful life. I also enjoy working with couples and families to strengthen their relationships. To help them resolve conflict and communication issues and show them alternatives to communicating and solving conflict. I want to create a safe place for my clients to be able to freely experience their feelings and for them to be encouraged and validated.

I work with individuals (adults and children), couples, and families who aspire to heal, grow, and find fulfillment. While some elements of life are our choice, some issues are outside of our control. I offer guidance and support in navigating life’s challenges while developing resilience and setting boundaries to protect yourself in a difficult world. My deep understanding of diverse backgrounds and generational trauma ensures a therapeutic environment where I will listen to your unique experiences, and acknowledge that your experiences may not be the same as mine or others.

Coming from a relational perspective, I see each individual as unique in the experiences they bring into the room, and I see the evolving relationship formed in therapy between client and therapist as the most impactful part of the process.
It's normal for people to feel unsure in knowing where to start when understanding difficult experiences. Life can often can leave us feeling overwhelmed, and we need someone to come alongside us as we sift through our own emotions, whether old or new. My work of creating space for clients is grounded in the belief that the therapy encounter is meant to help clients explore and embrace a more authentic sense of self, and to grow their capacity to love themselves and others in meaningful ways. My practice is inclusive towards all backgrounds, and I work to create a space that feels safe and hospitable for all.

My practice includes working with individuals, couples and families dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment injuries, sexual abuse and a variety of individual and relationship issues.
Reaching out for help is not a weakness or proof that something is broken. Instead, it takes courage and is rooted in hope. My passion is to tap into and foster the very hope and courage that brings people into therapy. From a family systems perspective, I work within the context of relationships such as couples, parent/child, siblings or other interpersonal relationships. I believe a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is crucial to helping others find solutions and achieve their goals.

You don't have to be "crazy" to seek counseling. Some people are just stuck and need some help getting back on track. Others are at a point in life they're not sure what to do next, so they come to figure that out. Some people have relationship problems in the family or at work, and want help to work through it. Some have emotional problems, or are haunted by past events and want to break free of them. Still others are wanting to grow and develop a clearer sense of purpose, or gain a stronger sense of spirituality.

I am passionate about what I do. I believe you already have inside of you the ability to make the changes you want in your life. I love to see people find healing by taking captive their self defeating thoughts and making changes in their behavior. I know the most important thing I can do as a therapist is build a trusting relationship with the people who come into my office.

I especially enjoy working with individuals going through divorce, teenagers, grandparents raising grandchildren, blended families, couples striving to have a healthy relationship and anyone motivated to understand themselves.
I enjoy working with anyone who is struggling to understand themselves and their behavior. While we can not force someone else to change, changing how we react to others can often bring about change in the relationship. I see counseling as a journey. You are the driver and I am the passenger pointing out road signs. My job is not to judge but to make sure you are aware of your options and their consequences. Whether it is childhood issues, parenting skills, stress, anxiety, depression or problematic relationships, talking to an unbiased trained professional can be of great benefit.

I regularly work with couples seeking to avoid divorce and other relationship struggles.
I am raptured by a conviction that true speech heals. When we are dishonest with ourselves and others, we internally deposit distress, anxiety, and depression. Holding this in mind, I aim in my personal and clinical practice to foster an environment where truth is uncovered and revered. In so doing, people are freed from the trappings of lies, explicit and functional. I look forward to partnering with those who have the courage to look at what is true.

I believe in taking a holistic approach to counseling. Since most issues are interrelated, positive change in one area begins a ripple effect of change in others. My training and over 25 years of clinical experience is diverse, including issues related to relationship problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma and grief. In addition, I offer women's groups and individualized anger management. Since 1995, as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma, I've taught courses on: Understanding Addictions, Chemical Dependency, Human Emotions, Stress Management and Advanced Counseling Skills.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
