I specialize in helping individuals overcome anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other related mental health concerns.
In my experience, the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is arguably the most important part of successful treatment. It can be incredibly important to find a therapist you connect with, who is also able to provide evidence based treatment that is right for you. I have worked in the field of mental health and social work for nearly a decade. I've worked with clients ranging from pre-school kids to grandparents and everyone in between. I currently prefer to work with adult women (18 and over) looking to heal from past trauma, tackle anxiety, or find freedom from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and intrusive thoughts.

Are you struggling with anxiety or OCD? Do you feel not good enough, unworthy, or unloveable? Are you or your child experiencing trouble at school or in peer relationships? Do you desire to be confident in setting boundaries, processing hard emotions, and restoring intimacy in your relationship? You don't have to do it alone.
Confidentiality often doesn’t seem possible in a small town. Do the local clinicians attend your church, live in your neighborhood, or attend your child’s school? Cairn Wellness Center clinicians are traveling from the Metro to provide an additional layer of privacy, providing you the confidence that your private information is being shared with a clinician who doesn’t reside in your local community.

Problems enter our lives and we do the best we can to manage and cope. Sometimes, it is useful to have someone to help navigate these struggles. That is how I view my role. It is important to me to provide a space where clients receive unconditional positive regard and where we work together as a collaborative team. I practice evidenced based psychology which is effective in relieving a variety of problems. My two main areas of focus are gender health as well as treating OCD/Phobias and related disorders. I work to incorporate techniques that make sense to the client and are effective in bringing relief.

I work collaboratively with individuals with OCD, anxiety, phobias, tic, and BFRBs. I provide ethical and evidence-based services by immersing myself in continuing education and training led by up-to-date research in order to provide focused care for individuals with issues in these specific areas. It takes a great deal of bravery to walk into a therapist's office -and- research says working with a therapist is essential in successfully addressing these diagnoses. My role is to honor that bravery with care, acceptance, and options toward the changes you want to see.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
