Most of my experience so far involves working with addiction and trauma.
I take a person-centered approach to therapy, which emphasizes presence, listening, and acceptance. I'm also interested in the way that significant relationships shape our expectations of future ones. If you need someone to listen, a safe space to explore unspeakable feelings, or support for working through your past, we might be a good fit.

I have been in the profession for over 12 years, and in that time I have worked with a large variety of clients. I started working in a mental health residential treatment facility for adolescents, then worked in community health care, substance abuse residential treatment and private practice. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, addictions and LGBTQ+ hurdles. I have also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse heal and become healthier, as well as embrace the happiness in their lives.

I believe you are the expert of your story, and I work with a variety of clients in order to relieve the stress and anxiety, treat the depression and help clients learn new skills to succeed in life. Sometimes I think therapy can be throwing out your "stuff" on the table and then both of us sifting through it to better understand whats there and where it came from.

I enjoy working with those who have struggled with life situations that have caused them to lose confidence and need encouragement and an affirming voice to help them find peace and joy once again. There is always hope and the promise of a new day, and I look forward to being able to assist them in discovering that promise. I approach counseling from a broad perspective of non-judgmental, solution-focused strategies that respect the humanity of everyone who comes seeking a better tomorrow. Always remember, "You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."- Winnie The Pooh

Are you feeling stuck and you aren't sure what your next move is? Maybe you're not sure where to start, or you have experiences from the past that are holding you back and getting in the way of you being your best self. Perhaps you've tried therapy before but really didn't get anything out of it. Or you are struggling in your relationships and keep repeating the same old patterns, and quite frankly, you're over it. Maybe your last therapist listened to you as you shared, but didn't offer much guidance in return. As your therapist, I will meet you where you are, and come along side you to help you identify and reach your goals.

My style of counseling is straightforward and direct, but I do not tell you what to do, but help you to figure out what action is best for you. I use CBT (talk therapy ) and Person Centered Therapy, as well as hypnotherapy. I have helped hundreds of people struggling with depression, anxiety , addiction and those in the LGBTQ+ community. I have been doing this a long time and understand we all make mistakes. I believe the important thing is to be willing to work for change.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
