It is with much admiration and respect that I engage with clients in the journey to wellness. As a therapist, I have always believed in the strength of the individual to heal. I have a depth of knowledge and years of experience knowing how mental health concerns impact individuals. It is part of who you are, but it doesn't need to define you. It can be difficult to seek help when things seem overwhelming and that is why I have always tried to create a warm, compassionate and safe environment. I am accepting of wherever you may be in your journey of self-discovery and growth.

I connect best with individuals who have a lot of emotions, but have trouble communicating their emotional experiences to people in their lives. These individuals may feel misunderstood, unaccepted, different, or alone, but want desperately to feel understood and accepted.

I have worked in both mental health and addiction treatment for the past 20 years. I am a licensed independent social worker with a supervision credential and a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor. I love what I do and feel my biggest reward is seeing past clients doing well after discharge. I truly enjoy watching people get well and learn to relive their lives. I am a master's graduate from Ohio University and as well as being a full-time clinical director I am also an adjunct professor at Zane State College teaching addictions which was a personal goal for myself.

You might feel outofstep with peers, uncomfortable in your own skin, searching for a simple solution to fix something that seems broken, or overwhelmingly exhausted by daytoday tasks. Perhaps you’ve tried reaching out to others, but it feels as if they don’t truly understand. You may have tried to force yourself to move through life pretending your pain doesn’t exist, made unhealthy choices to ease your distress, or decided to remain silent rather than burden others with your problem. You are not alone. It takes courage to acknowledge a problem and seek help.

My ideal client is ready to do the hard work of making real change in their life. Sometimes, people think change has to be big to start therapeutic services; it doesn’t. Sometimes, learning to breathe, decrease anxiety, and be more mindful of your strengths can become a great asset. Therapy doesn’t have to be forever; sometimes, you just need help getting through the now. I help individuals & families dealing with chronic illnesses and end of life. At times like those, crises often happen: medical conflict, spiritual conflict, familial conflict, financial concerns, housing and food insecurity.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
