I started my social work journey at an in-patient adult hospital, then moved to intensive community based therapy with children. Gail Clendenin is a licensed social worker and graduate of The Ohio State University College of Social Work. She treats people age 18 and older and is enthusiastic about working with members of the LGBTQ+, ethically non-monogamous, polyamorous, and kink communities. Gail is working towards certification in EMDR therapy and uses EMDR therapy to help clients work through PTSD and trauma. In Gail's free time, she enjoys writing and running role-playing games.

I recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary and I am currently under the supervision of Sharon Williston-Benadum, MA, LPCC-S, LICDC, SAP. I want my clients to know the joy that comes from living out of freedom from their mental health issues. My mode of practice is psychodynamic with eclectic influences including integrating eastern and western thought, mindfulness, compassion, and meaning. As a therapist specializing in OCD, I understand the pain and futility that accompanies chronic overthinking and the difficulty of being mired in the same unhelpful behaviors and emotions. I understand the bewilderment of not knowing what could help, as well as the frustration of knowing, yet still feeling unable to move forward. We want agency over ourselves and our lives, but we also want to be able to let go of the things that are out of our control. While I put no timetable on recovery, my hope for my clients is that they come to a place where they feel like they no longer need my services.

My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerned as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

I see counseling as a pathway that helps people discover their strengths and gain tools to better navigate anxiety, depression, grief, identity confusion, life transitions, or other difficult life circumstances. In a therapeutic relationship, you can process your feelings and thoughts in a safe space. I have over 20 years of experience working with adolescents and adults who are in need of mental health counseling to address life issues of stress, depression, anxiety, addiction, work issues, relationships, sexual issues and family dynamic issues. I enjoy helping individuals learn new coping skills for depression and anxiety. I also specialize with individuals who have trauma and grief and will help you resolve those issues. I’ve spent the last 20 years working with children and families who are facing personal life challenges. I believe individuals are the experts of their own lives, but sometimes need help navigating difficult experiences, emotions, and circumstances. Everyone, at some point in life, experiences a challenge they struggle to overcome. It could be a loss, emotions associated with an event, a life change, or other personal struggles. Sometimes we need to learn new or more effective ways to manage those life challenges.

After receiving her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College in 2007, Amanda pursued her Independent license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (IMFT) in Ohio. She has more than a decade of clinical experience working with kids, adults, couples, and families treating a variety of mental health, behavioral, and relationship issues. Amanda also has additional specialized experience and training in the areas of trauma treatment, suicide intervention, and intensive home-based therapy.
