My approach is to view problems or issues from a systemic perspective. That means I am curious about our key relationships past and present, the roles we play, the rules we follow, and where our identity and value systems come from. My passion is to make sense of the ways our internal experiences (relationship with self) and our external experiences (relationships with others) collide and inform one another. I strive to help people develop wholeness of self through unpacking anything that is keeping them stuck.

I have my independent licensure in the field of clinical counseling. I use a holistic and integrated approach in therapy including but not limited to motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy, and basic tenants of person-centered therapy. We will likely be exploring coping skills, engaging in therapeutic activities between sessions, and establishing short- and long-term goals. What and how we work on topics in counseling is entirely your discretion as you are the expert on your life.

I have worked with women and men who have experienced trauma resulting in panic attacks, night terrors, agoraphobia, and substance use. Often, this would interfere with relationships, self-worth, and just getting through the day. Over time, I have been able to work with my clients to achieve the self-confidence and healing to live life on their own terms. I am direct in my approach. I tell you how it is and help you to work toward your goal in therapy. Working with me, clients have gained more insight into their lives and been able to break patterns that have occurred for generations.

Psychotherapy is a process of personal growth that occurs both through self-exploration and experiential learning. Within that process, I strive to create a compassionate, receptive, and responsive therapeutic environment that promotes reflection, understanding, and change. Through creating an atmosphere that balances safety and challenge, I encourage people to face and overcome their distress, as opposed to adopting coping strategies which often perpetuate feelings of being stuck. Through this process of discovery, life becomes more satisfying when you gain more influence over how you experience yourself, others, and the world.

I'm a 53 year old African-American male therapist. I have been clinically licensed since 2000 as both a clinical counselor and a supervising counselor. I have two master's degrees; the first is in community counseling, and the other is in criminal justice. I am pursuing my doctoral degree in counselor education at the University of Cincinnati. Throughout my career, I've done a significant amount of work with at-risk youth, families, individuals coming home from prison, and people recovering from substance abuse. I also have worked with men court-ordered into domestic violence intervention programs.

Traditionally trained in psychodynamic and CBT. However, clients who are open to an overarching paradigm of spiritual/energy concepts have proven to benefit the most from CognoSpiritual Psychotherapy which I developed to address clinical issues, e.g., anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and other psychological/emotional issues associated with living and working in this world. A fundamental assumption of the paradigm is that "God" is spirit/energy in All things, people, situations (omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent energy), not limited to man-made divisions of faith and practice.

Jungian Therapists

How does Jungian therapy work?

Jungian therapy, also called analytical psychology, focuses on a patient’s inner experiences and unconscious mind. Exploring a person’s unconscious mind can be achieved through several means, including the analysis of memories and dreams, and through physical exercises, such as art, dance, and word association.

How long does Jungian therapy last?

Jungian therapy is an intensive treatment type. Because its goal is to understand a person as a whole, including the unconscious aspects of them, treatment can range from months to years. Since patients learn the theory behind Jungian therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have completed.

Is Jungian therapy effective?

According to studies, many patients find success with Jungian therapy, and the century-old treatment has a devoted following. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Improvements in problem areas seem to continue even after the end of Jungian therapy, as people are able to continue working on themselves using the tools they’ve learned during the treatment.

Is Jungian therapy evidence-based?

Jungian therapy is theory-based, derived from the theories of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist often called one of the fathers of psychology, along with Sigmund Freud. Jung developed his theories from observing the problems of patients, and developed many theories of how the mind works. Subsequent psychological research has determined that Jungian therapy can lead to significant improvement in most patients.
