Most people know of the Golden Rule or a similar version of it, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". Oftentimes when we hear these words, we forget about the part referring to ourselves. This is able to be translated into our relationships; we forget about ourselves and lose sight of the fact that a relationship is a two-way street. A relationship is a cause and effect; nothing happens on one side that does not affect the other. The idea suggested by Dr. Peterson that we should treat all people, including ourselves, as people who we want to encourage and develop is exactly what I strive for when I see clients.
