Hello and thank you for considering me as a teammate in your journey to wellness! As a Counselor and Art Therapist, I work with clients and their support systems to achieve a state of health and wellness. You may have done therapy previously, or this may be your first time, but either way I will walk you through every step of this process providing education, support, warmth, and encouragement. I believe that all of us know what we need in our lives, and we are all capable of achieving our goals, but at times we may need new tools and a consistent encouraging support system to make progress.

You're tired. Tired of suffering in silence from a history of trauma, a stressful life, crippling anxiety and depression. You're tired of feeling like you can't quite get close to anyone because trusting yourself and others is hard. You're tired of feeling low, stressed, overwhelmed, overstimulated, and like no matter what you do on your own you can't seem to find a way to feel better. Your tried and true coping skills just aren't working for you anymore, and you can't think of new ideas for coping. Any hobbies you used to enjoy, you can't seem to get into anymore because they don't bring your the joy they once have.

I have worked with a variety of clients affected by trauma, perinatal mood/anxiety disorders, addiction, and eating disorders. What each of them has taught me is that recovery is possible and it's different for everyone. I focus on collaborative, client-centered therapy to treat the whole person utilizing EMDR, CBT, and DBT resources to assist my clients in developing insight and understanding the root of behavioral patterns in their lives. Humor, although underrated, is often woven into the therapeutic process!

I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families struggling with a wide range of issues. Whether it is anxiety in childhood or adulthood, marital conflict, grieving the loss of a loved one, or navigating motherhood, I understand that we all need connection and validation. We need to know we are not alone in whatever we are facing in life. Also, a common struggle for many is lacking a sense of purpose or meaning in their lives, often leading to frustration and despair. I am passionate about helping clients understand the importance of finding purpose.

It is possible to change! Unfortunately life is full of stress and wounding experiences. Sometimes these experiences are extreme one time life changing events or losses but often they're chronic insidious challenging experiences of everyday life. Abuse, loss, toxic relationships, life transitions to name a few can result in hopelessness, addiction, despair and unexplained fear and anxiety. It can impair your relationships, your work, overall sense of well being and beliefs. The good news is that there is a lot of new information about how the brain is affected by these experiences and ways to change it.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
