As a counselor, I'll strive to help you feel empowered, connected, meaningful, and rooted in your authentic self. I believe we grow through relationship with others, so our work together will be a partnership. Together, we'll explore your strengths, values, and hopes, to help you use your power to reach your goals. I know that feeling seen and heard by your therapist matters, so I'll work to create a space where you can feel safe to be authentic and open. I use a blend of relational-cultural theory, feminist theory, existential theory, and narrative therapy.

Life is hard. We have so much to stress and worry about in today’s world. We worry about getting the bills paid. We’re concerned for our’s and our loved one’s safety and health. We can often be so overwhelmed by many things. And it’s depressing.

I thrive when working with clients who enjoy a goal directed, supportive approach that helps them clarify what they value most and what they want to draw into their lives. My sessions are interactive and focused on what is important to my clients to create the life they want to live. I explain my role as a therapist and encourage clients to share what they are hoping to achieve in therapy. I personalize interventions for each client.

I am a LISW with psychotherapy experience in both community and private practice settings. I make it a point to be flexible as a therapist because no single approach fits everyone. My post-graduate training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy and I prefer to work with people to address longstanding, intractable patterns that interfere with the client's freedom to love, to work, and to play.

I believe counseling is a holistic collaborative effort between the therapist and the individual, couple, or family seeking services. I have experience helping with a variety of mental health and emotional issues, including mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and self-esteem issues. I believe each person deserves respect and guidance on their individual journey, and I look forward to being a helping guide to you. I know taking that first step towards change is typically the hardest step of all, but you are here doing the hard things!

Anxiety, depression, anger, trauma... most of us experience times in our lives where we are overwhelmed by our circumstances. Whether you're looking to address anxiety and/or depressive issues, increase motivation, want to learn to let go of negative thinking and negative self-talk (we can be so mean to ourselves!), improve relationships or parenting skills, increase confidence or any number of things, you have come to the right place. I've always thought it strange that we take our cars straight to the shop when something is off but we don't do the same for ourselves when faced with difficult times.

Many people turn to psychotherapy or counseling for help with anxiety, depression, trauma, painful relationship patterns, feeling stuck, or sometimes just the feeling that something is missing from life. Sometimes we may not have the words to describe our feelings, struggles or suffering. However, with insight into past relationships and experiences, many people can make progress immediately towards overcoming these difficulties and becoming more effective in their work and relationships. I am a licensed clinician with nearly twenty years of experience in practicing Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
