The number one “rule” we therapists follow is autonomy for our clients – you lead the sessions, make your decisions, and allow yourself to have space and time to unburden yourself. Of course, we therapists are there to assist you through this journey. Mental health therapy is a journey to explore and become self-aware of the whys of what we do. My goal is to guide you through that journey when you need assistance.

My goal is to create a warm, safe, non-judgmental space where clients can tell their stories, gain insight into how life events have impacted them, and learn healthy ways of coping and walking through life. I believe it is important for an individual to become aware of the root causes of their issues, learn to manage their emotions, and implement practical solutions into their daily lives. It is amazing to watch people find hope and healing in their lives and relationships, achieve goals, and break cycles of dysfunction. If you will trust the process and do the work, you can find peace and healing.

Hello my name is Kim Starrett I own a neurofeedback business which is a type of biofeedback that measures brain waves to produce a signal that can be used as feedback on brain activity to teach self-regulation. Neurofeedback is commonly utilized by using video, games or sound, with positive feedback for desired brain activity and negative feedback for brain activity that is undesirable. When you give your brain real-time information about its energy level, you can teach it to calm down or speed up, to shift more efficient. These changes will eventually carry over into your daily life.

With my clinical doctoral training and extended trauma/EMDR training and certification, we can collaborate to get you "unstuck" and make daily life more fulfilling.
An unresolved past can creep its way into present life. Feeling stuck in current relationships, struggling to deal with stress and problems, feeling down on yourself, unsure where to turn next, and thinking your past experiences may play a role but its unclear how and to what extent. Feel familiar?

I guide my clients to identify the emotions behind protective reaction. This improves their ability to recognize emotional needs, communicate more effectively, and begin leading a life within their conscious mind. Adversity and trauma can lead to chronic emotional deregulation, and through emotion focused therapy, DBT, mindfulness and psycho education I guide clients through the healing process. Attachment wounds and painful life experiences can lead to living in chronic protection mode. Through collaboration, compassion, and acceptance, I guide my clients to deeper connection; not only with others, but also with themselves.

Many of my clients suffer from PTSD, substance abuse, depression, and anxiety.
I see many people who feel their lives are out of control. I know that they have been deeply wounded and need gentle treatment. I'm ready to help you through the battlefield of trauma, frightening experiences, broken trust, and self-loathing that have altered how you view the world, how you approach other people, and how you feel about yourself. Healing is hard work, but is well worth the struggle. However, you should not have to do it alone. Take the first step and seek help, from someone. It shouldn't have to be this hard. Please call our office at 419-874-3201 to find out if we can help you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
