The couples I work with want to learn skills to improve their communication, manage conflict effectively, and rebuild trust and intimacy within their relationship.

Counseling isn’t one size fits all. I approach the counseling process eclectically and by meeting the patient where they are in their life. I believe it’s important to incorporate various techniques, as well as different forms of interaction that may facilitate deeper conversation and connection. I believe in order for someone to feel comfortable opening up, they have to trust. Sometimes this means stepping outside of your comfort zone. I look forward to working with you on your journey of self-improvement, self-reflection, understanding, growth, and discovery.

As a therapist, my biggest goal is to help you to be kinder to yourself and to live a more easeful life. I've found that EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) are a really effective combination of therapies for people struggling with trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship difficulties (and work well virtually!). These approaches may be new to you, but what's important to know for now is that they provide the tools to help heal trauma, increase self-compassion, improve relationships, manage anxiety, and build a healthier and happier life.

As a practitioner, I have always been passionate about women’s behavioral health, however my diverse clinical experience and deep compassion equip me to support a wide range of concerns.
I became a therapist because I find true joy in connecting with others. I believe that therapy can be impactful and enriching while still feeling down-to-earth and accessible. As a social worker I value collaboration, cultural humility, and seeing you as the expert of your own experience. My style is warm and relaxed, but I will also work diligently with you to develop the tools you need to meet your self-defined goals.

Life can be very demanding, whether it's family, work, school, or all of the above! Anxiety, depression, and other issues are often connected to trying to meet and make sense of life's demands. I have experience working with women of all ages to sort through difficult emotions, past traumas, and relationship issues. Using client's strengths, I work to deepen understanding of current behavior/emotions, identify wants/needs, and help facilitate acceptance and personal growth.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
