That quote captures our hu man struggle.
An effective therapist must have empathy and caring for his client, as well as the skills and knowledge to do the work. I believe my personality and values help me offer the first and my decades of work as well as training and supervising many other therapists have honed my abilities. I have experience in combining psychodynamic theories within a hu manistic and supportive approach.

I offer DBT and RO DBT skills training groups in my practice, which have helped many individuals.
I enjoy working with any person who is motivated to overcome issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or more severe disorders. In my 26 years in practice as a psychologist, I am frequently reminded of the importance of not being so problem-focused that one forgets to look at the person's strengths, which are the most valuable tools for recovery and personal growth. I feel privileged to be invited by clients to join them on their journey of growth, healing and discovery.

"Helping You Do Life Better." We all face difficult times in our journey of life when we find ourselves feeling lost, stuck, confused, and/or alone because of our struggles with emotional and mental health. Counseling can help you do life better in the following ways: (1) increase self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love; (2) discover internal strengths; (3) recover and rediscover the person who you are meant to be; (4) find healing and restoration you long for. My clients that have found the most success in these areas are those who are willing to invest in themselves and do the work between sessions.

*Currently offering telehealth appointments only* I work with adults and adolescents and have experience helping with a wide range of issues. The only prerequisite for therapy is that you or your loved ones are suffering and would like some help. Where appropriate and useful, I prefer to work intensively in an exploratory and supportive capacity to attend to long-standing and entrenched problems that seem resistant to change. If your goal is better self-understanding, enduring growth, and becoming more comfortable in your own skin, we may be a good match.

I have had the privilege of working with many couples of different ages, orientations, religious traditions, and ethnicities.
Arguing with your partner makes you feel more alone than ever. You are not sure when or where you started to feel the distance between the two of you, but you find it hard to ignore. Being a couple is truly one of the most difficult tasks you have ever embarked on, but you do not want to give up now. I provide couples with a clear and organized framework to enhance their relationship. By employing a systematic approach, I help partners identify their goals and develop actionable steps to reach them.

We all have a story filled with less than perfect relationships, and with the many bumps and bruises that follow.
Finding a therapist you can trust is tough! The best way to get a feel for what working together might look like is to give me a call. We can explore what our work together might look like and you can get a feel for my style and therapeutic approach. My hope is always to collaborate with you, to better understand your experience and to empower you to make changes in ways that bring freedom and change. Therapy is never easy, but it can be one of the most important investments you can make in your life, and your future.

I take a Hu manistic approach to counseling, focusing on providing client-centered treatment, and emphasizes the client's needs over an intervention-driven agenda. My services are for those who have felt frustrated with previous counselors because they got the impression that their counselor was not truly listening to what they were saying. I have set up my practice so I am your only point of contact, from administration tasks to treatment, to make your experience as easy as possible.

Do you feel connected and passionate within yourself? With your partner? My professional focus is in helping individuals and couples develop deeply connected, intimate and vibrant relationships with their partner and within themselves. I have found that a committed couple can often work through hurt, misunderstanding, and loneliness to find a relationship that feels safe, loving, and deeply engaged. I work in an open, encouraging, and emotionally attuned style that respects each partner's experience, which can then help to dissolve painful, disconnecting cycles and develop new enlivening, loving, and connected ways of relating.

Many people experience suffering in their lives and want to bring about change. The causes of suffering can be many, unhappiness in relationships and work, fear, anger, and grief related to climate change and hu man rights abuses, behaviors that repeatedly cause pain to self and others, frequent emotions that are difficult to control etc. Often, people have a lot of insight into the sources of their problems, and still have trouble with decreasing suffering and bringing about lasting change.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
