I've always wanted to be a teacher, which has become the foundation of my counseling approach. While I don't teach ABCs, now as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), I do teach clients about disorders/symptoms, coping skills, thoughts/behaviors, exploring feelings, and learning to love this new you. To create an atmosphere of learning and growing, I will focus on our relationship, creating a safe environment, exploring openness to change, and using evidence based treatments. I graduated in 2012, with a Masters Degree in Counseling, from the University of Akron.

I value connection and authenticity. Though therapy can be an intense experience, sessions often include laughter and joy. Therapy is a collaborative relationship where you should feel seen and heard as your whole self.

I am a therapist who takes a feministic approach and is knowledgeable about children and adolescents, spirituality, mindfulness, consensual non-monogamy, sex work, kink-positive, and is very social justice oriented.
Being vulnerable is a strength that allows you to open doors you once thought were closed. Making the choice to attend therapy takes courage and that courage will drive you to create change within your life. Attending therapy can be a vulnerable setting, but I strive to make warm and genuine connections with my clients. I will do this by highlighting your strengths and creating awareness with tools that will help foster change within your journey

I use techniques such as reflection and processing, self-exploration and education, challenging and replacing unhelpful thoughts, incremental behavioral changes, assertiveness and communication skills, meditation and mindfulness, deep breathing and emotional regulation skills.
I'm a person-centered counselor who brings compassion, understanding, and genuineness to every session. Rather than focus on the diagnosis, I prefer look at the “big picture” of a client’s life to find the root cause of their concerns. We will explore how your thoughts, actions, environment, upbringing, and relationships might be affecting your mental health. We will then set goals to help you pinpoint where you want to be.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
