My name is Cassondra McMorris , LPCC-S. I am a counselor that has engaged in online as well as office based. I have a lot of experience in clinical roles in mental health, crisis and substance use. I got my bachelor of science degree from Heidelberg University. My major was Clinical Psychology. I loved the small school environment so I continued my education at Heidelberg where I earned my Master of Arts degree in School and Clinical Counseling. Eventually I decided to get a PhD from Tiffin University. My PhD is in Global Leadership and Change. I enjoy learning and found studying a new field to be a welcome challenge.

We've all heard the saying "things happen for a reason" and "you wouldn't be who you are today if that didn't happen". While there may be some truth to those, that doesn't mean we have to let them define us. It is easy to feel like you are stuck in a cycle that you cant seem to break out of. A cycle of substance usage, anger, fear, avoidant behavior, unhealthy relationships etc. You don't have to surrender, you have the ability to take control of your life for a better future. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, or a past trauma, I can help you navigate through your mental health journey.

What happened to you hurt deeply, and it’s affected your whole life. Your relationships aren’t the best, and you’ve been getting upset or irritated over nothing. Little things can ruin your whole day, and you can’t figure out why. You notice you’re “triggered,” but you just can’t seem to bounce back. To make matters worse, beliefs such as “I need to be perfect and please everyone,” or “I’m not good enough,” run through your head and affect your quality of life. Working through the past is a big step, and it’s great you’ve already begun by being here.

Have you ever wanted to get therapy and were concerned about finding a queer friendly therapist? Are you an adult dealing with ADHD and tired of all the articles online only having advice for dealing with ADHD kids? Do you need help defining and setting healthy boundaries with those you care about? We all could use some extra support these days and it is nice knowing there is someone out there to help you process whatever it is you are dealing with in that moment. Whether it be a coming out process, a gender identity exploration, a late-diagnosis of ADHD that shakes up your world, or a realization that you are worth the time it take

My name is Mary Bridgett Holzheimer, I go by Bridgett. I have worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor for about 15 years. I embrace the multisystemic approach to therapy with the idea there are many solutions to living a better and healthier life. I am currently in a private practice, providing both group and individual services for clients. A big part of my duties has included working closely with the court system in conducting evaluations and psychological testing for people who come out of the federal prison system. The private practice environment has taught me that it is imperative to be motivated, flexible.

Thankfully, I consider myself blessed to have never “worked” a day in my life. I started over 25 years ago providing clinical social work to abused and neglected children and adolescents. Over the years, I have worked with multiple populations in rural and urban settings with low and high incomes. I diagnose and provide therapy to all age ranges, children to seniors. The diversity of the populations I work with include children, adolescents, adults, couples, LGBTQIA, veterans, and families.

I often use a mix of Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), Dialectical (DBT), and many more. I believe it is the client's job to determine the goals for therapy, but I will come alongside them to help determine the objectives connected to that goal.

Life can be a challenge, both positive and negative. At times we may not know how to help ourselves become unstuck or how to work through life and asking for help can be difficult. As human beings, we are designed to make connections with others through shared experiences but a great appreciation of our differences. I use a strengths-based, person-centered approach. I have worked with clients from all walks of life and in various settings and hope to work with you soon.

I earned my master's degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and I am working on my Doctorate from Walden University. I have spent several years helping diverse individuals overcome barriers that prevent them from enjoying their lives. I utilize several evidence-based therapy techniques, including those that are specific to the veteran population, that will allow an individual an opportunity to work through obstacles and achieve outcomes that they desire to have a happier, healthier life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
