Many things can lead us to this place, including trauma, depression, masking our neurodivergences, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, parenting, pregnancy, being the default parent, carrying a heavy mental load, struggling in our relationships with food & our bodies, complicated relationships, & managing a huge workload at home, school, & work. I'm also certified in perinatal mental health.
When the the decision fatigue is real- feeling overwhelmed with all the responsibilities of adulting? Trying to find a good work/life balance? Finding yourself stuck in a cycle of being drawn to all the wrong people? Having a hard time prioritizing your life, being assertive, and setting boundaries? Life can feel like it's just too much. You want to do better but when you stop and try, it’s all too overwhelming. You may even feel stuck. If you're a parent, that adds another extra layer of "too much," exhaustion, and stress.

Of Note: I am one of the few therapists Certified in Perinatal Mental Health (if that pertains).
I have been in the mental health field, working with anxiety and trauma, for 20+ years! YOU appear driven and put together on the outside, but are struggling internally. You are wanting relief. Perhaps the anxiety is the result of something that happened to you. If your life is inhibited by your past in any way, this is the right place for you. I can help you find what is on the other side of the anxiety and fear, which could be peace, relief, and authenticity. I have intensive and specialized training in Trauma, PTSD and the resulting anxiety that comes from overwhelming or unsafe situations & people.

You may have ended up here if you have found yourself trying all of the fad diets only to have gained the weight back. When someone pulls out the dessert at events, you probably feel embarrassed, ashamed, and tend to withdraw because the thoughts you have about food consume you. It makes total sense that you believe if you were “the right size” you’d be happy and content with your body. The way we think and feel about our bodies and food directly impact our mental and physical health. In reality, the guilt and anxiety you have around food is what you need some support around – we get that and we are here for you!

As a counselor, my goal is to establish a warm and supportive relationship, free of judgment, and full of unconditional positive regard. By doing this, I take time to empathize with clients through their own eyes and collectively we develop an alliance and work towards goals as a team. I prefer to meet with the client first and then correspond the best theoretical orientation to the individual, couple, or situation. I believe that successful treatment needs to be personalized and that treatment needs to include and the environmental elements that are impacting the individual as well.

Therapy does not equal mental illness. The truth is, we all face difficult experiences in life that seem unmanageable at times. Therapy is a safe space and a judgment-free zone. This is a place for you to be real, raw, and your authentic self.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
