I began my journey towards the art of healing through therapy after working in community mental health where I recognized how active listening matched with providing tools of healing and hope helped to change people's lives. I believe that individuals have the potential within themselves to discover their own healing journey. My therapeutic style is eclectic, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused care, narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy. I believe that I bring a unique voice of care in working with survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking.

Individual counseling provides an opportunity for you to talk openly about your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental environment. I work with a variety of clients including children, adolescents, adults, and those within the LGBTQ community. With children and some adolescents, differing modalities of therapy, including art and music, provide an additional outlet for those who cannot always verbalize thoughts and feelings. Family dynamics can often be challenging, whether you have a traditional or non-traditional family, and I can help. Together, we can work through your concerns.

Hey, Hey, Hey Strong Friend! How are you really doing? Are you tired of being sick and tired? Overwhelmed with trying to figure life out on your own? Does it seem like one thing after another continues to take place and you just can't seem to get a hold on any situation. Are you looking for the right skills, strategies and routines? Do you wish that there was someone in your life like YOU, someone that just gets it? Someone caring and concerned, willing to just listen and provide you with the feedback necessary to help you go from surviving to thriving.

I use exercises such as guided meditation and art-making to guide self-awareness, increase intuition, embodiment, and shadow work.
You are a middle-aged woman who feels the path provided by your parents, religion, or society isn’t working for you. You live in your head, struggling with perfectionism and people-pleasing. You experience migraines, stomach aches, sleep disturbances, and racing thoughts. You were in a care-taking role your whole life, but now, you’re exhausted from managing everyone else’s needs, often neglecting your own. You feel a gnawing guilt, persistent inner criticism, and a pit of despair. You are ready to heal old wounds, resolve shame, and truly trust yourself. You seek deep, long-term healing that addresses the root of your struggles.

I use art therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to encourage healthy emotional expression and to help change unhealthy thinking patterns.
Are you anxious, depressed, or struggling with trauma? You may be wondering if there is hope for you or if your life can ever change. Many counselors enter this field because we ourselves know what it is like to struggle, myself included. My experiences and training have led me to believe that we as people have an incredible capacity for change and healing. If you are ready to make changes in your life or simply need a listening ear, you have come to the right place. Life is hard, but we don't have to do it alone.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
