I specialize in seeing clients who struggle with over-controlled personality types. Do you work too much? Want things to be perfect? Strongly dislike being out of control of situations? Or feel like you have to do things in order for them to be done correctly? My ideal client is simply a client looking to learn and grow. I have treated such a wide variety of diagnoses and people from all over the country. I am open to most clients as long as they are adults.

I realize that if I were stable, prudent and static; I'd live in death. Therefore I accept confusion, uncertainty, fear and emotional ups and downs; because that's the price I'm willing to pay for a fluid, perplexed and exciting life (Carl Rogers). Taylor is an empathic connector who has worked with many different diagnoses throughout her time in the field. She passionately believes that empathy is the foundation of meaningful therapy. Specializing in the treatment of trauma, depression, and anxiety, Taylor provides eclectic treatment, drawing from Trauma-Informed, Multicultural, and Person-Centered modalities.

I am passionate about trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBQT concerns, personality disorders, and neurodivergence. An ideal client is an individual who has a growth mindset and explores their thoughts and feelings and how they impact their behavior. They may not understand how those thoughts derived from past experiences, but they are willing to open old wounds given the right tools. They feel safe and secure and want to heal through hard work and determination.

I have extensive experience doing trauma-based work in areas of sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, and secondary traumatic exposure for first responders.
Therapy is an opportunity to promote healing and personal growth in a supportive and judgement free zone. I have worked in the mental health field as a social worker since 2014. I take a relational approach to counseling as trust and connection are very important to the therapeutic relationship. I work with each client to be trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. I am a certified therapist in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treatment and trained in Flash technique. I enjoy working to build awareness with how our bodies respond under stress and practicing mindfulness techniques.

Rather than relive the trauma we can challenge the impact.
I naturally gravitated to the field of therapy as a result of my own therapeutic experience. I am dedicated to those who may feel stuck in a cycle of negativity, panic, anxiety, depression, feelings of helplessness, toxic relationships and the many symptoms of trauma. There is a path to recovery. It really does lie within yourself, sometimes we just need a little help finding that.

I also work with those who have suffered trauma and PTSD using CPT.
I work primarily with young adults and adults who struggle with eating disorders of all types, but I also have extensive training to treat and support the often co-occurring disorders that can accompany eating disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and past trauma. My clinical work and years of experience have shaped my therapeutic practice in a way that attends to the entire continuum of my patient’s care. From the initial meeting, to the celebration that successful termination brings, I work hard to foster trust and learning as we navigate eating disorder recovery together.

I have been practicing for over 35 years and still love the process of engaging with clients who desire to grow, improve their lives, and/or solve their problems through therapy. Assisting people during times of crisis, transition, personal struggle, trauma resolution, and family problems is what I do best as a psychologist. In addition I have worked hard to build a Practice involving many other therapists who have the same mission. My husband, Dave Zachau, who is also a therapist, and I have devoted our lives to helping others and building our community based Practice.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
