I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples for twenty-five years in different clinical settings such as mental health centers and private agencies. I have experience with treating a wide variety of disorders and I specialize in grief and trauma. My training includes cognitive behavior therapy and EMDR.

Dr. Dunn is a licensed clinical psychologist with experience and expertise in providing treatment to adults. He was born and raised in Holmes County, Ohio. He served as a U.S. Air Force Psychologist for four years before establishing a private practice in Columbus, and then in 1998 opened New Life Counseling in Dover. In addition to treatment of depression, anxiety, and marital and family problems, he provides more specialized treatment in pain management. He lives with his wife and two children near Dover, and they are active in a local church.

Someone you love has died, and your world feels like it is falling apart. Nothing is the same anymore. One day follows the next, leaving you behind. You lay in bed at night, missing your loved one with a pain that is unbearable. If only you had one more day to spend with them-to say good-bye, to say all the things you wish you had said, but didn't. Regrets and memories flood your mind, keeping you from sleep. Your heart is breaking and you feel so alone. If only things could return to the way they were. But you know they have changed forever, and you wonder how you'll be able to go on.

My specialized areas of focus are trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationships. I use CBT, EF, ACT, and the Gottman method, among others. These approaches acknowledge the unique experiences and cultural nuances that shape the lives of African American people. I create a safe, supportive environment where you can confront and heal from systemic racism, generational trauma, and personal struggles. I understand that seeking therapy can be a courageous and vulnerable step, especially for Black individuals who have historically faced systemic barriers and biases in mental health care. I'm committed to creating a safe space for you!

I received both my Bachelor’s Degree and Master of Social Work Degree from Youngstown State University. I have been a Social Worker for 17 years, and am licensed through the Ohio State Board of Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. I have a wide range of experience working with children, teens, young adults, adults and the elderly in individual, family and group settings.

I am a firm believer that ANYBODY can benefit from therapy no matter one's age, gender or race. I have experience working in a multitude of settings such as school based counseling, Methadone clinic, community agency work, and private practice. I have experience working with individuals (children, teenagers and adults), families, and couples. I have experience serving diverse populations with a wide range of mental health concern.

Life is inevitably painful, and none of us make it through without incurring some wounds along the way. Some wounds are fresh, reflective of present life circumstances – a recent loss, strained relationship, a multitude of stress and worries. Other wounds are old and have been carried a long time, rooted in past experiences and impacting us today through ongoing patterns of behavior and ways of relating to self and others. Left unattended, these wounds (new or old) may lead to a number of distressing symptoms and much suffering. Like physical wounds, emotional wounds need to be seen and acknowledged, cleaned and dressed to heal.
