Becoming a parent can be simultaneously the most rewarding and most challenging time in your life. You may be struggling with conception, or you just gave birth and are experiencing scary and debilitating depression or anxiety, or maybe you’ve lost who you are in all the roles you’re playing (mother, partner, employee) and you want to find yourself again without feeling guilty about it. Or maybe nothing is “wrong” but everything still sucks. I specialize in treating all facets of maternal mental health & wellness, from Millennial/Generation Z life transitions, to conception, infertility and loss, through pregnancy and postpartum.

You've been looking for answers for years. You've been told it's anxiety, it's depression, but you feel like it has to be more than that. You wonder if you're broken or if there's something wrong with you. You wonder if you're making things up because other people have it "worse." You may even feel silly reaching out and asking for help, but you know that you have to because you're tired of feeling this way. You just want some relief.

One of my favorite things about my work is hearing each of my clients' unique stories and collaborating with them to create a customized treatment plan that addresses their priorities. One-size-fits all cannot apply to therapy, because no two stories are the same. This is why using evidence-based approaches that allow for the depth of each person's situation is so important to emotional healing.

Every human has a unique and sacred story, and to tell that story with your whole heart is one of the most critical and beautiful components of growth and wellness. To have the bravery to tell it requires, at the very least, a feeling of psychological safety. My primary goal – in alliance with you – is to create an environment of safety in which trust can grow. And through that trust to experience the freedom to nurture your authentic self. I want to communicate hope, value, and change to my clients who are in the midst of an experience of suffering, and will walk alongside of you in your journey towards your goals.

Are you a young adult woman experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and even trauma? Self-discovery and creating/finding identity are goals I work best with. In my most recent job, I have found that domestic violence survivors and women who experience issues specific to being a woman have piqued my interest. As a therapist, the most rewarding thing is to guide women toward embracing themselves for who they are, heal past wounds, and empower them to live fully and authentically. I believe I have been given a purpose in this world to serve others, and that's what I was created to do.

I would enjoy working with someone with goals but may need some help clarifying them and creating a plan to work toward them.

Feminist Therapists
How does feminist therapy work?
Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.
What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?
Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.
How long does feminist therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
Does feminist therapy work?
As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
