Neurofeedback assists your nervous system to regulate itself in the right direction, as we dig deeper and root out long-standing patterns from the past with EMDR and IFS.
The human brain is shaped by experience. Sometimes those experiences can be overwhelming, leaving us at a loss for how to integrate them into the greater context of our lives. No matter how much we talk about it, we can often still feel stuck, sometimes even after years of talk therapy! Through a powerful combination of trauma-informed approaches, it is possible for these patterns to be reversed. I hold out tremendous hope for change because I have seen the power of the brain to heal from deep wounding.

I am an EMDR trained therapist.
You feel like you’re trapped in a maze of emotions. You’re constantly being pulled between moments of intense distress and moments of numb detachment. Fear, anger, and sadness keep you from feeling any sense of stability or peace. You’re struggling to trust others and nothing feels safe. You’re feeling exhausted and isolated and it’s time for a change. You want to get through your day without being constantly on edge, waiting for the next intrusive thought to appear. You’d like to enjoy life without constant worry or fear. You think it would also feel wonderful to achieve a sense of inner peace. I can help you get there.

Many of my current clients have struggled with addiction, depression, and anxiety because of past trauma. It may be sexual abuse as a child, witnessing violence, being involved in an accident, struggling just to get out of bed for the day. Don't give up on yourself, you deserve to live your best life. Just remember today is the day!

I have completed training in EMDR (a method of trauma therapy that addresses information processing and emotional distress linked to past memories).
My name is Mitchell Harmon (he/him) and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S). I have a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University. I believe that life is a series of transitions, and it is during these transitions that people experience their greatest struggles, and their greatest triumphs. Change is never easy, and most people are trying to live their greatest lives, but sometimes experience barriers to being the best that they can be. I consider it a privilege to help people become the greatest version of themselves.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
