I have been in practice for nearly 20 years. Many clients come to see me because they feel stuck. I hear "what's the point? why am I here? what's my purpose? " I create the conditions where clients can be seen, understood and reflect on how they want to show up in their life. We explore feelings of loneliness, interpersonal detachment and how to deepen the connections with ourselves and others. I specialize in providing confidential, safe and effective Individual and Group counseling services for a wide range of human struggles including grief and loss, depression, anxiety, life transitions, family of origin issues and addiction.

Hi, I'm Kristyn and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor in the state of Ohio. I am co-owner of Growing in Grace Counseling, LLC. First off I want to say that you are courageous because it takes a lot to seek out help when you need it most. At this moment, your life may feel overwhelming and anxious thoughts will not rest and peace may seem out of reach. You may feel burdened with guilt and shame where there may be no hope within sight. I would love to come along side you and help you find that peace, to find hope, and restore balance back into your daily routines.

My passion is empowering women to improve their skills in setting boundaries as well as helping clients to manage & improve anxiety & depression.
Right now, life may feel hard. You’ve faced many challenges that seemed to have come out of nowhere, and you're constantly doing your best to navigate through them. You struggle to set healthy boundaries and often feel overwhelmed. Asking for help isn't always easy. You may say to yourself, “What will people think? I can figure it out on my own.” It’s tough because you usually go at it alone, carrying the load and bearing the burden. However, deep down inside, you know that something isn't quite right and that you could use some support. Does this sound familiar?

My passion is helping women and birthing folks move from surviving to thriving.
Parenting can be stressful and overwhelming. Add onto that the other "hats" you wear in your life: employee, spouse, caregiver to adult parents... the list goes on. You keep seeing videos online about ADHD and wonder if that could be you. You're chronically stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, touched out, are having physical health problems, have ZERO libido, and are struggling to find who you are postpartum. You're looking for a psychotherapist who "gets it," with lived experience of the stress that parenting can bring, and is truly trauma-informed.

My specialized areas of focus are trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationships. I use CBT, EF, ACT, and the Gottman method, among others. These approaches acknowledge the unique experiences and cultural nuances that shape the lives of African American people. I create a safe, supportive environment where you can confront and heal from systemic racism, generational trauma, and personal struggles. I understand that seeking therapy can be a courageous and vulnerable step, especially for Black individuals who have historically faced systemic barriers and biases in mental health care. I'm committed to creating a safe space for you!

You feel anxious, alone and you don't know what to do. If these are supposed to be the "best years of your life," why doesn't it feel like that? You know time is precious, but it feels like it is creeping slowly along and moving at lightning speed at the same time. As a wife and mom of 3 girls (2 being identical twins), I understand how easy it can be to lose yourself in motherhood. You need a safe space where you can work out all those thoughts and feelings that send you spiraling. You're not just a mom or a partner—you're a multifaceted individual with dreams, aspirations, and a story all your own.

If you are seeking someone to listen when it is warranted, challenge when needed and offer continuous support and encouragement, I am your woman! Grab a hot cup of coffee and give me a call to see if we would be a great fit.
I spent the first 6 years of my career working in admissions for psych & detox. I love working with a variety of clients ranging from those coping with depression and anxiety to trauma. I am passionate about working with fellow mothers (single moms, those with a partner, working moms, those trying to conceive, those grieving, those needing a hot cup of coffee...oh wait, that is all of us!). I also have a desire to help clients who are working through work stress, trauma, and other related disorders. I am open and very excited to work with all populations and would love to talk more to see if its a good fit for us both!

I understand how difficult it can be to reach out to a stranger to discuss your most intimate life details. Daily people face many different struggles that lead them to contacting a therapist. I work very hard to make you feel at ease in this process by building a therapeutic relationship and using humor when appropriate. I acknowledge the vulnerability and strength it requires to make the first step to reach out for help. I provide a judgement free and supportive environment.

I view counseling as a partnership between an individual or family and their therapist. When the theraputic relationship is strong I believe much can be accomplished. I work with individuals, adolescents and families as a partner in the process of wholeness. I believe that counseling can assist in the development of an understanding of yourself, your family and enhancing important relationships in your life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
