As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a focus on emotionally focused therapy (EFT), I work with disconnected and distressed couples and individuals. This conflict may arise from family-related stress, infidelity, divorce, parenting children with disabilities, trauma, toxic work environments, and political anxiety. I am keenly focused on creating an inclusive, warm, non-judgmental environment for all my clients.

Ms. Sara Bates is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation  trained in Trauma-Informed Care for All, Family Therapy, Perinatal Therapy, Sex-Positive Therapy, Pleasure Education and Intimacy Coaching, Couples Counseling, CBT, DBT, and IFS; treating both adolescents and adult populations.  Her clinical approach is to meet the clients where they are, by building on personal strengths and supporting them through life’s difficult challenges. She provides EAP services as a contractor, for local and federal law enforcement agencies. Reiki Master/Teacher certified, for stress relief practices and coping strategies.

I am the sole clinician at my new private practice, Dr Jennifer G Smith LLC. I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides individual and group psychotherapy and have over 10 years of clinical experience providing mental health service to adults. I see myself as client-centered and relational in my clinical work and take an integrative approach to treatment. One of the most important aspects of counseling to me is making sure my client feels safe and heard. I view it as a privilege to be invited into someone's world and asked for help, so I meet the client where they are and we make a plan together.

My goal as a therapist is a place for you to feel comfort, support, validation as well as empowered. Therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and therapist while working together to identify your needs and goals especially when feeling stuck or overwhelmed in life.

I believe that every individual, couple, and family has a story that they can change by gaining insight into their situation and making different choices. I partner with my clients to help them explore the options and tools available to them. Having spent years in the corporate and nonprofit arenas before embarking on my second career as a counselor, I bring real-world knowledge to my sessions. I am genuine with my clients, and sessions with me are just as likely to include laughter as they are tears. I treat each client with respect while asking tough questions that lead to productive conversations.

I believe the most important question we can ask ourselves is, "What do I want?" I believe that everyone has an ability to move towards growth, healing, and fulfillment. I approach therapy from a perspective learning and believe that the more we learn about ourselves, the better able we are to make choices about how we want to move forward in life. I use an integrative framework to address each client’s individual needs. I work from a trauma informed lens and use interventions from existential, Attachment Theory, Gottman, ACT, IPT, and EFT.

I am a licensed independent social worker in Ohio with certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I received my MSSA from Case Western Reserve University. I have experience working with at-risk adults who are living with severe mental illness in both agency and community settings. My areas of expertise include: moderate to severe mood and behavioral disorders, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders and issues related to grief and loss.
