My work focuses on interpersonal and community relationships, grief, boundary setting, and life transitions.
If you are looking to work through grief, shame, anxiety, or any other heaviness you're carrying, you've come to the right place. I know therapy is a process- and a difficult one at times- and I am hoping we can build a collaborative relationship that fosters an environment for healing and growth.

Currently not accepting new clients at this time. Let's be real: between work, relationships, health, ambitions, the future, the world… life can be a lot. Not to mention the pressure to do it all and be it all. Plus you know, ALL the feels. Those small and big transitions, losses, and yes, those feelings you try to ignore or avoid- it's likely grief. How human of you! We (all of us) forget that grief is a universal part of our human experience because we (culture) don't do a good job of normalizing it let alone therapy which exists to remind us we don't have to do this all on our own.

The majority of my experience is in grief and loss and bereavement including traumatic loss (Suicide/Overdose), as well as adjustment, anxiety, depression, and caregiver stress.
When people are struggling, they want to be heard, validated, and feel that there is hope. Their goal may be to just feel better, but they need help figuring out how to get there. They want someone they can talk to without fear of judgement and who can help them process their thoughts and emotions in a way that they may not have done in the past. They want to feel that the support they desire does exist and is accessible.

Having had experienced many losses in my life, I often wonder what to do next or how to move forward. Sometimes life happens so quickly that it seems like there is not enough time to catch a breath. It's a scary feeling to have to figure out the hustle and bustle of life while still hurting inside. Fearful of being misunderstood, judged or like "it" may not work may be the negative thoughts that have developed during such a devastating loss.

Hello, I am Ruth and as a therapist I strive to create a space like this because this is where true healing and growth happen. We all have different life experiences and sometimes figuring out how to handle and cope with those experiences is challenging. You don't have to do it alone! Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, chronic stress, trauma, relationships or life transition change is possible.

Many individuals have concerns with depression, grief, and anxiety. These may become overwhelming at times, even hard to deal with. However, they need not be. Don't allow these feelings to become obstacles on your journey to a more fulfilling life. Instead, transform them into stepping stones to your happiness and freedom.

I work with adults experiencing grief, depression, anxiety and general life transitions and challenges.
I believe that the most powerful part of the therapeutic relationship is in the human connection. It is in this connection that the creative and dynamic process of change begins. I value each client's individual narrative and offer a peaceful environment to address aspects of life that may prevent you from recognizing your capacity for healing. Whether you are negotiating life losses, feelings of anxiety and depression or adjustment to life challenges, I see my role as compassionate listener and guide. I will quietly challenge you to move beyond negative patterns of thought. My approach while directive is holistic, and supportive.

I have worked in private practice settings for more than seven years with men and women to address conditions such as depression, anxiety, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use issues.
*CURRENTLY TAKING NEW CLIENTS* Each person is born to be someone – themself. Over time this sense of self is molded by our lived experiences, relationships, and interactions. Sometimes we are molded to fit into a role or to fulfill someone else’s needs. It is this sense of losing ourselves that can lead to the challenges of anxiety, depression, emotional distress, and numerous other mental health concerns. As a result, I believe counseling is an essential part of life – a journey to finding the authentic self.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
