Every day seems overwhelming, and often finding a few minutes to focus on your own needs seems impossible, it can feel as if you may never be happy again. Some days it takes everything you have to get through the day, and you wonder, "is this the best my life is going to be?" In the morning it takes all that you have to get out of bed, and at night, you lay awake, unable to sleep, due to worry, fear, and feeling things are just hopeless. It can be scary to reach out to a counselor, you just want to find someone who understands and doesn't judge. Experiencing depression or anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of, it isn't your fault.

Does any of this sound familiar? Life weighs you down so much that hope is a thing of the past. Activities that you enjoyed a few short years ago now are meaningless and uninteresting. Depression is the ruler of your life and decisions, and you do not even recognize the person in the mirror. Your relationships with family and friends have hit rock bottom. As a parent, especially, this brings immense amounts of guilt because you can’t be as present as you feel you should.

I understand that in life, many stressors often occur that can be difficult to work through. Sometimes, it is just needing a listening ear to help offer another perspective and provide support. It is my goal to make you feel heard and understood in person or through telehealth. I enjoy working to help make you feel empowered to overcome any circumstance that may arise.

Whether it be anxiety from unmanageable stress, depression, trauma, divorce, a death, or just trouble with navigating through life....there is hope! You can recover and heal! Broken vessels are often the ones that shine the brightest!

My areas of focus are relationship counseling, infidelity, family conflict, parenting concerns, perinatal bonding and attachment, anxiety, and depression.
I truly believe that we all have personal strengths that help us work through life’s difficulties. We sometimes just need others to help us identify those strengths as well as ways to utilize them to cope and find solutions. I find it a privilege to walk along side clients as they discover their strengths, heal from trauma, and work to repair relationships with self and others.

If you are someone who is struggling through the perinatal period whether that's difficulty trying to conceive, grieving the loss of a pregnancy, mood changes throughout pregnancy and postpartum, or into motherhood and you are hesitant to reach out for support.
If you are experiencing perinatal depression, anxiety, or OCD this can feel very isolating and lonely. You may also be feeling overwhelmed about seeking help due to stigma, judgment, and other barriers to accessing care such as no child care or not having many good options in your area. I help women, and their families, who are struggling as they walk through the pregnancy and postpartum journey. I provide teletherapy only to help increase the access to care for those who may live in more rural areas or for those who have little support to watch their children while they go to session. I don't mind kids in the background of session.

Becoming a parent can be simultaneously the most rewarding and most challenging time in your life. You may be struggling with conception, or you just gave birth and are experiencing scary and debilitating depression or anxiety, or maybe you’ve lost who you are in all the roles you’re playing (mother, partner, employee) and you want to find yourself again without feeling guilty about it. Or maybe nothing is “wrong” but everything still sucks. I specialize in treating all facets of maternal mental health & wellness, from Millennial/Generation Z life transitions, to conception, infertility and loss, through pregnancy and postpartum.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
