I have been treating adult individuals who have been struggling with anxiety and depression for 23 years. Then, leaning into EFT and psychodynamic approaches, we may get to the underlying issue, so coping isn’t all you're doing.
️If our greatest strength is our greatest weakness, what's yours? Sometimes our skills to survive get in our way to thrive. The challenge shows up in my clients' relationships, substance use, and parenting. If you're stuck in a cycle, burnt-out, losing love, or repeating the same old battles against anxiety and depression, you may not be thriving in the way you were meant to.

My style of therapy draws from several evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, interpersonal, psychodynamic, developmental, and trauma work, as well as aspects of the Gottman method and emotion-focused therapy for work with couples.
My top priority is to provide effective, high quality treatment within a safe, confidential, and respectful environment in which clients can explore their concerns, express their feelings, and learn new skills to mange themselves, their relationships, and their lives. I believe that the foundation of successful treatment rests on the quality of the working relationship that develops between the psychologist and client.

I approach therapy from a psychodynamic model, also drawing from attachment and neuroscience, that emphasizes 1) the therapeutic relationship, 2) formative life experiences, & 3) the unconscious.
Psychotherapy is a process of personal growth that occurs both through self-exploration and experiential learning. Within that process, I strive to create a compassionate, receptive, and responsive therapeutic environment that promotes reflection, understanding, and change. Through creating an atmosphere that balances safety and challenge, I encourage people to face and overcome their distress, as opposed to adopting coping strategies which often perpetuate feelings of being stuck. Through this process of discovery, life becomes more satisfying when you gain more influence over how you experience yourself, others, and the world.

My approach is person-centered and psychodynamic with a focus on the unconscious meaning of your experiences.
I understand the exhaustion and hopelessness. The gut-punching anxiety that hits out of the blue. I know what it is like to feel lost and trapped at the same time. I decided to become a therapist after a successful academic career as a philosophy professor. I made the career change after facing and overcoming my own mental health challenges with the help of a therapist. The experience was so liberating that I wanted to share it with others.

His approach to clinical work incorporates relational, feminist, and psychodynamic perspectives to support individuals in their process of personal growth and development.
Building a trusting, collaborative relationship is at the forefront of my work, though I’m aware this looks differently with each of my clients. I see the process of change as occurring in the context of relationships and through exploration of patterns that may be preventing one from living a fulfilling life. Through the discovery of these patterns, we can begin to understand how to live life more genuinely. I am a relational and psychodynamic therapist who incorporates various therapeutic approaches and interventions, including cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques.

Traditionally trained in psychodynamic and CBT. However, clients who are open to an overarching paradigm of spiritual/energy concepts have proven to benefit the most from CognoSpiritual Psychotherapy which I developed to address clinical issues, e.g., anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and other psychological/emotional issues associated with living and working in this world. A fundamental assumption of the paradigm is that "God" is spirit/energy in All things, people, situations (omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent energy), not limited to man-made divisions of faith and practice.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
