If you are depressed you are living in the past, if you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present. - Laotse. Many of us can relate to this quote. In fact, many of the individuals I see now have suffered from a tremendous amount of pain. I want to join you in your healing journey, reaching a feeling of peace and comfort. Give yourself the permission to tell your story and BE HEARD. As your therapist I provide a safe & non-judgmental environment to really begin this process. I have no doubt in your ability to be at peace. I want to reinforce your strength, potential, & worth.

An unresolved past can creep its way into present life. Feeling stuck in current relationships, struggling to deal with stress and problems, feeling down on yourself, unsure where to turn next, and thinking your past experiences may play a role but its unclear how and to what extent. Feel familiar?

Something in your life isn’t working right now. Maybe it’s a close relationship where you don’t feel seen or understood. Maybe something happened that you can’t get out of your head, and every time your mind wanders back to it, you feel a tightening in your chest. Maybe you’re doing something that you know is holding you back, but you just can’t seem to stop. Whatever it is, something in your life is keeping you from feeling at peace and excited to wake up in the morning. Take a moment and think about what your day would look like if you felt seen in your relationships and free from trauma and addiction. Let's make that reality.

Each of us has an innate capacity for self-healing, and a safe relationship allows that ability to emerge. Trauma doesn’t have to be a big event; there are many ways that our systems can be overwhelmed, resulting in stuck emotions, unprocessed memories, and unhelpful self-concepts. Our natural responses to perceived threats, at one point, are wise and protective. However, when the survival response remains stuck in the body it can create behaviors and symptoms that are damaging. Our thoughts, feelings, bodies, and environments are intricately connected, cyclically creating and informing each other.

I believe in human resilience and the power of connection. I approach clients with an objective perspective, considering how all parts of their lives could impact their current experience. I try my best to listen openly in an effort to hone in the primary concerns of clients. While I view clients' pasts as affecting who they are and their current perceptions, I tend to focus on helping to improve the present and future experiences of clients. It feels most empowering to help clients discover their own answers, so I prefer to ask questions rather than tell clients 'what to do.'

I work with adults processing a variety of issues including trauma, grief, relationships, complicated life transitions, depression, anxiety, and more. We can tend to feel “stuck” during difficult periods of our lives, or even start to form negative beliefs about ourselves as a result of trauma. Thoughts such as “I’m not good enough”, “something is wrong with me”, or “I’m permanently damaged”, “I can’t trust myself or others” etc.

Being a holistic therapist means that I use a whole-person approach to address presenting concerns, identify individual strengths, and promote a higher quality of life. This happens through understanding and gathering insight on the many factors of a person's life that influence their well-being. I emphasize the mind-body connection in my approach to therapy. When we experience mental and emotional stress, trauma, or fatigue, our bodies are also affected, and vice versa. I emphasize the power of exercise, nature, and self-care in therapy.

I believe in utilizing therapy as an opportunity to assist individuals, couples, and families in acknowledging and overcoming barriers to healing and change. I create an authentic, collaborative and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients are able to address areas in life that aren't working (anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, painful experiences); to explore and resolve the internal and relational barriers that limits healing and personal growth; and to create an action plan that empowers clients to live out their full potential.

People possess an astonishing and incredible natural capacity to heal themselves both mentally and physically. But, many are not able to find their path through life's complex and sometimes painful questions. Therapy can be the catalyst for healing by peeling back the layers to find your innate, intuitive wisdom about yourself. My role as your therapist is to be your champion- to accept you and unconditionally support you, no matter what you are facing or experiencing.

Pain and, often, trauma are a normal part of our humanity. Unless there is healing, the pain and/or trauma leave wounds that accompany us throughout our lives. It is my belief and experience these wounds can be healed. I’ve encountered personal healing and have had the privilege of facilitating the healing of others. As wounds heal, our true Self is able to expand, grow and awaken into its true nature, allowing us to live happier, freer and more peaceful.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
