Kristina has 15 years experience counseling adolescents with a focus on twice exceptional students (children with an ADHD and/or anxiety diagnosis and cognitive giftedness).
Difficulty sleeping, feeling burned out, excessive worry, fatigue, and sadness sometimes feel like they are the price we pay for our modern life, but that doesn’t have to be so. The barriers may be negative thoughts, past traumas, unhealthy relationships, depression, anxiety, or anything that is standing in their way.
What if all of those negative thoughts just didn’t bother you anymore? What if you could find a healthy way to not only process them, but let them go? Does it ever feel like you have a dark cloud hanging over yourself. Constant negative thoughts running through your mind. Maybe memories of trauma or negative experiences that creep up constantly. They may have happened years ago, but to you, it feels like yesterday. Life can be difficult enough without also having to fight negative thoughts and feelings in your own mind. It’s exhausting. And worst of all, it can stop you for accomplishing your goals and living your best life.

Hello, I’m so glad you’re here. Many of us experience struggles at some point that feel overwhelming. I believe everyone deserves support to help them on their journey to feeling their best! Working on concerns/talking about feelings is not everyone’s favorite thing to do. Therapy can be difficult but it can also be extremely helpful. It’s not always like the movies. You don’t have to lay on the couch, go through every moment of your life, and always “tell me how you feel”. I DO want you to be comfortable, talk about what is important to you in order to meet your goals of therapy, and I am always open to hearing about your feelings!

I understand. Probably the most untrue thing anyone can say. I am not you, I have not lived your life, felt your feelings, or thought your thoughts. This means I can't fully understand what you have gone or are going through. What I can do is appreciate your struggle and help you navigate and sort through it all; to find why we think the way we think, feel the way we feel, and behave they way we do.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
