Hello, my name is Dr. Stephen Fortson and I specialize in treating couples, families, and individuals with professional clinical counseling services. I have been a licensed clinical professional counselor for 29 years. I am also retired associate professor and chair of the Department of Human Services at Wright State University where I oversaw the counselor preparation program 20 years. Michelle Davis is a Licensed Independent Social Worker. She received a Master's of Social Work and a Bachelor's in Human Development from California State University, San Marcos. Michelle has been practicing since 2017. She has previous experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families in wraparound and community mental health settings. Michelle views clients through a client centered and trauma informed lens and has advanced training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Her main areas of focus include anxiety, depression, behavior/oppositional defiance and trauma.

I provide counseling to children 2-10 years of age and their parents to address trauma, attachment issues, ADHD, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, behavioral issues, developmental concerns, parent-child relationship issues, and parent skill building.

My ideal client is someone who is ready to work towards the change they want to see in their lives. I work with individuals who are children, adolescents and adults. My primary goal is to help the client determine if I am their ideal fit as a therapist because the therapeutic alliance one of the most important pillars for clients therapeutic benefit.

I have extensive experience (over 18 years) working with children and adolescents with attention and behavior problems, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum symptoms, social issues, learning and school-related issues, and adjustment problems. I believe collaborating with schools, family members and other treatment providers is an important component of comprehensive treatment. The relationship between a therapist and client is often one of the most important factors in change, so I work hard to put my clients at ease from the first session.

Life can be challenging and the additional obstacles of change, strong emotions and a lack of a sense of control can make the challenge feel overwhelming. I partner with people to help them learn skills to overcome or manage these obstacles in order to feel a better sense of control and resilience.

Our approach to therapy is one in which our clients are viewed as resilient and resourceful. Our office is a place where change happens. I am now offering Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy to our practice. Horses are extremely intuitive animals and are able to help facilitate change on an emotional relational level that enhances the healing process.I have had a long interest in horses and find a healing effect to be activated when in their presence. This realization was probably the most important driving force that propelled me into this horse/person connection as a modality for treatment.

I have facilitated several groups including topics such as self-esteem, healthy relationships, social skills, and creative journaling. I believe in tailoring therapy to each unique individual, drawing from a wide range of theories. I work collaboratively to identify what my clients want out of therapy and develop strength based goals. Using my creativity, I design interventions that will benefit clients in achieving their goals as well as have a little fun. Various forms of art and play are often incorporated into sessions.
