Ashley has experience with treating anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, grief, emotion management, amongst many others.
Do you have trouble waking up in the morning, the desperate hope the next cup of coffee will give you the energy to make it through the day, constant worries running through your head? Do you ruminate and worry about past events? Does this effect your day to day functioning? Do you want to feel energized and more productive? Do you want to look back at negative past events and not feel as effected by them?

My passion is in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and those undergoing major life transitions.
“Therapy isn't Radio. We don't need to constantly fill the air with sounds. Sometimes, when it's quiet, surprising things happen." - Mary Pipher. As a clinician, I believe in creating an open, non-judgmental therapeutic space in which clients can feel safe to explore uncertainty and navigate life’s challenges. Guided by the belief that clients are the experts of their own lives, I work to individualize treatment to best meet clients where ever they may be on their personal journeys to mental and emotional wellness.

Whether you’re feeling alone out here and the sadness has become a filter through which everything feels hard or the anxiety has you so on edge that you’re not recognizing yourself, these feelings can hijack your life. Depression and anxiety does not have to be your norm. The trauma you might have experienced does not define you. I genuinely believe we are all out here trying to feel better the best way we know how. Maybe what you’ve done isn’t working or maybe you picked up some unhealthy patterns to cope with it all. Or maybe you’re scared. Whatever the reason you’re looking for help, I’m so very proud of you.

I have a special interest in helping those who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship stress, relational trauma, & identity challenges.
Sometimes life may weigh us down with overwhelm, and things may start to feel confusing, lonely, hopeless, or exhausting to the point where you feel trapped or on edge. Often it can feel worse when it's difficult to find someone who understands and can help you through it, making the stress continue to weigh you down and placing you in cycle that feels all too much. Maybe you're not even sure what you're feeling, but you know it's not what you want. Whether it is a relationship issue, life transition, identity crisis, or mental health concern, I aim to work with you to develop strategies for well-being and healing.

There are always things in life outside of our control. I encourage you to take advantage of what is and schedule a session with me where I provide person-centered therapy. Together, we make our time about YOU. I am devoted to meeting you wherever you are in life for the purpose of empowering you into giving yourself the gift of self-care, self-love, and grace. Sometimes, all we need is to be supported and heard and I would be honored to be that safe place for you to express vulnerability and rawness that comes from within for the purpose of connecting with your true, authentic self.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
