I am passionate about treating individuals in the Mahoning Valley who are experiencing distress due to changes in their lives or symptoms that have become unmanageable. I focus on a collaborative approach in identifying behaviors that no longer serve you and assist in replacing them with coping strategies and interventions suited to your needs. Each session is tailored to the individual and presenting problems in order to best address what you need and what fits into your lifestyle. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from The Ohio State University, and Master's degree in Counseling from Youngstown State.

Although I am competent in many areas, I specialize in women’s issues, eating disorders, divorce, weight-loss surgery, anxiety, relationship stressors, life transitions, parenting, addiction and post-partum challenges.
For almost a decade, I’ve had the opportunity for individuals to trust me in their journey to working through a variety of challenges in their lives. I approach each person and their concerns on an individual basis, and find gratitude in the trust given to me in this process. I use a reality based and “down-to-earth” approach that also encompasses all of the important therapeutic ideals that I find beneficial. I try to create a judgement-free space for collaborative approaches to problems and focus on working side by side with my clients to meet their individual needs.

I have experience working with various populations in outpatient mental health and inpatient/outpatient addiction counseling.
My name is Manoli Kalouris and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio and Co-owner of Mindful Connections Counseling. I believe that therapists aren’t one-size-fits-all, and that the therapeutic relationship plays a vital role in achieving your ultimate potential for healing and growth. That is why I like to take a casual approach while using evidence-based practices & find that this makes clients the most comfortable beginning a not so comfortable process of therapy.

Do you have trouble waking up in the morning, the desperate hope the next cup of coffee will give you the energy to make it through the day, constant worries running through your head? Do you ruminate and worry about past events? Does this effect your day to day functioning? Do you want to feel energized and more productive? Do you want to look back at negative past events and not feel as effected by them?

If you are in need of treatment to address both addiction and mental health needs, I would love to work with you to achieve your goals, at your readiness.
I subscribe to a client-centered approach to work with a population struggling with cooccurring needs. Those clients that would benefit from our work, struggle with addiction and the recovery process, in tandem with mental health needs. With this notion, the population to whom I am primarily acquainted are those who are often initiating in their first steps of the treatment and recovery journey, those clients who have just recently made the decision, or are conflicted by the decision, to become sober needing a high level of care and clinical helping hand. Their goals are to achieve sustained recovery with an enhancement of wellness.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
