I have expertise treating bulimia, anorexia, binge eating, weight shame, and chronic dieting; ARFID is not my strongest skill set.
Limiting NEW clients to those seeking group counseling. Those seeking Eating Disorder Group treatment can be seen individually. For those only interested in individual therapy for eating disorder related issues, I have a qualified intern that could see anyone with Medicaid plans or self-pay or you may reach out to be on my waiting list. Mental Health Support and Wellness group is open; my colleague running the group can accept Medicaid or self-pay/sliding fee. I believe that allowing yourself to connect with others, such as in a group, can be an invaluable part of the healing process.

We all have moments where we feel lost in our past and like we can't get a grip on our current daily life. It can be extremely challenging to know if your thoughts are 'normal' or if something is 'wrong' with you and even more so when you feel you do not have people in life that you can connect with on a deep level. Feeling like a crispy (burnt out) mama that isn't doing her best? Wanting some connection? I got you. This shit is hard, but I believe it may be worth it for you. I do have additional training in trauma and eating disorders.

I work primarily with young adults and adults who struggle with eating disorders of all types, but I also have extensive training to treat and support the often co-occurring disorders that can accompany eating disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and past trauma. My clinical work and years of experience have shaped my therapeutic practice in a way that attends to the entire continuum of my patient’s care. From the initial meeting, to the celebration that successful termination brings, I work hard to foster trust and learning as we navigate eating disorder recovery together.

I work with all types of anxiety, depression, trauma, and eating disorders.
Hi, my name is Jenna, I am a mental health and addictions counselor that is passionate about working with moms and women who need help balancing out their life stressors and anxiety. in counseling psychology from Ohio State, and completed my residency at a residential treatment center for eating disorders in Oregon.
From time to time we all get trapped in patterns and ways of thinking and feeling that don't feel good to us. Therapy provides a safe, warm, and nonjudgmental connection that allows you to better understand yourself: your feelings, thought patterns, and relationships with others. While the primary goal of therapy is to find relief from your immediate distress, the self-knowledge you will gain in therapy will help you cope with problems that arise long after therapy is over. I view therapy as a unique, collaborative process in which you work toward discovering your own truths, great and small.

I specialize in EMDR therapy, which is an evidence-based approach to work through a variety of problems – complex trauma, traumatic events, addictions, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders to name a few.
You just want to feel better. Trauma has turned you into someone you don’t even recognize. You’re constantly on edge and can’t sleep. If sleep does come, it’s often restless and filled with nightmares. Your creativity, performance, and professionalism is suffering. You often feel tremendous guilt and shame; no one understands what it's like. Or maybe you stuff the hurt, pain, and disappointment down deep inside so no one sees it. You know how to put on a good, happy face for others. The emptiness and loneliness seem unbearable. Or maybe this describes your loved one who you can’t seem to reach no matter how hard you try.

I hold an Adjunct Faculty position at OSU, and have presented at national and local conferences on the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders and weight concerns.
Extremes in our emotional and psychological states can lead to imbalance, avoidance and mindlessness, and can be related to extremes in other areas of our health, such as eating, activity, and sleep. Eating too much or not fueling our bodies enough, stress or emotional eating-these are ways we cope with or respond to extremes in our thoughts and emotions, and distracts and disonnects us from our life values and goals. I am here to help you reestablish your values and goals by focusing on a more balanced perspective and awareness of your mind, body and behaviors.

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
