Your loss is real. A parent, spouse, child, friend. A job or lifestyle. Your health. How are you filling the emptiness? Calming the frustration or anger? Honoring the memories? How are you facing each spinning day?

You’re a high-achieving adult aged 25 or over. You’re also overwhelmed and exhausted. You feel confused about who you’ve become and wonder what happened to your identity and strong sense of self. You’ve asked yourself one or more of these questions: “why am I not good enough?”, “what is wrong with me?” “how can I be a better boss/partner/co-worker or friend?” You’ve searched the Internet endlessly looking for answers or support for your “problems”. You’ve even considered medication. Pause! EMDR in standard or Intensive format can help. Now is the time to eradicate distorted self-beliefs and get back to your fabulous self!

"There are far better things ahead than those we leave behind." C.S Lewis. If you are ready for your life to be different and you would like some help getting it there I would welcome the opportunity to go through that process with you. In the 14 years I have been in my profession I have worked in a variety of settings with adults, adolescents and children and have enjoyed every part of it equally. Each therapeutic relationship is different. I appreciate and value each dynamic with recognition of the unique opportunities they bring.

My favorite quote is from The Little Prince, "the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart." Often in the midst of our pain and struggle we react to circumstances with little or no thought. We allow ourselves to be directed by the world instead of identifying what we need and know in our heart. To identify what we need, know what our heart wants, and have a plan to follow is what therapy is all about. We must work through the pain to identify these things; accept that we deserve them, and develop a plan to achieve them.

Have you been feeling suck and don't know which way to turn? This may be due to hard life transitions, relationship difficulties, health insecurity, grief, or even major traumatic events. You do not have to figure it out on your own.

Limiting NEW clients to those seeking group counseling. Those seeking Eating Disorder Group treatment can be seen individually. For those interested ONLY in individual therapy for eating disorder related issues, I have a qualified Master's intern that can see anyone with Medicaid plans or self-pay; you may reach out also to be on my waiting list. Mental Health Support and Wellness group is open; my colleague running the group can accept Medicaid or self-pay/sliding fee. I believe that allowing yourself to connect with others, such as in a group, can be an invaluable part of the healing process.

Have you spent your life overachieving, working hard, taking care of others, doing all the right things, and yet thing aren't working out how you expected them to? Are your relationships very often one-sided, where you give a lot but no one takes care of you? I see you. My practice focuses on those who have "done all the right things," and are wondering why things are still so hard. Unfortunately, being hard on ourselves, working hard, achieving all the things, and taking care of everyone around us doesn't often lead to the sort of healing and peace we long for.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS!!! I have extensive experience (over 18 years) working with children and adolescents with attention and behavior problems, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum symptoms, social issues, learning and school-related issues, and adjustment problems. I believe collaborating with schools, family members and other treatment providers is an important component of comprehensive treatment. The relationship between a therapist and client is often one of the most important factors in change, so I work hard to put my clients at ease from the first session.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
