It is my goal as a therapist to support and encourage individuals to make the necessary changes needed for emotional stability and wellness. When working with a client, I focus on the skills they need to better cope with or overcome the challenges and stressors they face. Whether someone is dealing with a reoccurring mental health concern, a relational issue, or a life transition, I strive to provide a safe space where people can process, reflect, learn and grow.

My specialty is trauma. I love to journey with people to help them learn how to live free and full lives. Life is filled with many anxieties, trials, traumas, and obstacles which can create patterns that hinder us from thriving. When we experience trauma, our brain and body create adaptive or maladaptive patterns to cope with trauma. My goal is to partner with my clients to identify the problems, create effective goals, and increase healthy cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills in order to decrease symptoms and develop healthy coping tools. I provide Christian counseling to those seeking support from a faith based perspective.

Have you witnessed or experienced a highly stressful or traumatic event that is affecting you in your day-to-day life? Was this event experienced during childhood? As an adult? Traumatic experiences can include infidelity, sexual/physical/psychological abuse, neglect as a child, sudden death of a loved one, or a serious accident or illness/medical procedure. You may notice being triggered by things that never caused stress for you in the past. I have extensive training and experience helping adults recover from the emotional responses to trauma including PTSD.

I enjoy helping clients transform challenges into growth. I work with adults of all ages (especially college students) struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and with adjusting to life changes. No two people are alike, and I am able to connect with a diverse set of clients in order to meet them where they are. I delight in assisting each individual client to achieve their goals, overcome struggles, and create meaning. I operate under the style of Motivational Interviewing, and I utilize an eclectic style, drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, and existential therapy.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families struggling with a wide range of issues. Whether it is anxiety in childhood or adulthood, marital conflict, grieving the loss of a loved one, or navigating motherhood, I understand that we all need connection and validation. We need to know we are not alone in whatever we are facing in life. Also, a common struggle for many is lacking a sense of purpose or meaning in their lives, often leading to frustration and despair. I am passionate about helping clients understand the importance of finding purpose.

Why can’t I just get it together like everyone else? While many experience these thoughts at some point in life, many people suffer alone in them. These questions can leave us feeling shame, isolation, anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. Many of my clients come to me weary. I have worked in the mental health field since 1992, beginning in Boston, MA moving to Augusta, GA and finally settling in Cleveland, OH. My early work was trauma based with children and adolescents. My practice has since grown to include families and couples. I now see clients from the age of 10, adolescents, adults, families and couples. Emotional distress, from slight unease to life disrupting behaviors, can be linked to unprocessed emotional responses to stressors. I use an integrated approach to discover and process the triggering emotions, leading healthier thought processes and a more authentic expression of self.
