My experience with helping individuals and families overcome difficult challenges is my passion. I believe that it easier to find and build upon one's strengths than it is to focus primarily on fixing problems. Much of my time in therapy is spent on discovering creative solutions rather than talking too long just about what is wrong. I often involve the whole family and believe that every person is unique and requires an individualized approach. One size does not fit all. Please call me or email today discuss your needs and hopes and/or to set an appointment time.

I trained two years training at Baylor College of Medicine and have experience using evidence-based treatments to successfully treat clients with anxiety disorders such as OCD, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobias, and PTSD; mood disorders such as depression and Bipolar; and psychotic disorders such as Schizophrenia.
Hoping to regain control of your life? Uncertain about what your future holds? Getting help from a trusted professional is an important first step! I would love to help if you are struggling with anxiety, obsessional doubt, fear, worry, panic, depression, intrusive thoughts, or the aftermath of trauma. I have experience treating a broad range of clinical problems and would love to help you get your life back! Many of my past and current clients are just going through a rough time and need additional support from someone outside their immediate circles. Others have a diagnosable disorder. Either way, I'd love to help!

I specialize in almost any type of crisis: relationship, financial, work, or even existential (ok so maybe not the last but I'll give it a try!) I tend to address a lot of the following issues: Boundaries, PTSD, Marriage and Family, Personal Growth, Addictions, General Relationship, OCD, and many, many other areas.
I'm not your typical counselor... You won't find me busy looking at my notes and only paying attention half the time you're talking. My style is very conversational and I'll share about myself any time it's pertinent, or when asked. I don't believe in dragging counseling out because it's expensive so why waste your time and money? You've got a problem so let's get to fixing it! The bottom line is your quality of life: it's not where you want/need it to be, and it's my job to help you improve it. My primary office is in Springfield, MO with a secondary location in Chesterfield, MO a few days a week.

I've worked in a variety of settings with a variety people - many struggling with addictions (drugs, food), others dealing with the depression, anxiety/ OCD, and some who are facing difficult life decisions and/or seeking personal growth.
Depression, anxiety and addiction are often compatriots. They feed off each other and create a sense of hopelessness. Your struggle may be with substances (drugs/food), compulsive acts or obsessive thinking. However, they are often slightly different-shaped pieces to the same puzzle. Additionally, if you experienced trauma in your lifetime, you are even more susceptible to these disorders. Gratefully, there is hope and recovery for them! It is often not easy or quick, but it is doable. "God grant me the courage not to give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless." -- Chester Nimitz, WWII Fleet Admiral.

Sometimes what we KNOW is true does not FEEL true. Your days may involve fighting intrusive thoughts, wrestling with anxiety, or trying to act okay when you feel anything but “fine.” Your mind may feel like the problem right now, but it is a beautifully unique and complex part of you that is capable of wellness. While stress can be minimized, it will never be completely eliminated from our lives. However, our brains can learn to adapt and find safety even in the midst of life's storms. Whether you have trauma symptoms, anxiety, or OCD you can move beyond just surviving. You are capable of thriving.

Common issues I have experience with include ADD/ADHD, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders, and Gender Dysphoria.
I love that my profession allows me to connect with a wide array of people. I work with individuals ranging from late adolescence to late adulthood. I also provide family sessions for my clients, as needed. Hearing people's experiences throughout my time as a counselor has shown me how resilient people can be, and it's truly inspiring. I enjoy working with motivated clients who are ready and willing to make changes and break out of unhealthy patterns.

There are several reasons why people feel stuck in their life story that prevent them from growing into the person they want to become... A past that continues to return to the present, patterns that are unbreakable alone, major life changes, uncontrollable circumstances, feelings of shame - the list goes on. I love working with clients looking to improve themselves, their relationships, and learn to face their struggles.

“Just a small-town girl, living in a lonely world…” Hi there! I never thought I’d have a good excuse to use a Journey song as my introduction, but here we are! I am a small-town girl; I grew up in Willard, graduated from Willard, and have returned. While driving home for Christmas in 2015, I realized Willard needed a counseling center--and I have officially taken the leap! My hope is this can help Willard and the smaller surrounding towns not have to drive all the way to Springfield. "Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable..." - Mr. Fred Rogers

My reason for being a counselor is to help people understand and heal from their past and/or current pain and to learn coping strategies to manage future pain. People and relationships can be complex and full of both positive and negative emotions, including some that are painful. The ability to feel them, learn from them, and express them to others allows us to live more engaged and meaningful lives. It is rewarding to be able to support people as they go through the process of self-exploration.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
