I provide compassionate, science based treatment for Anticipatory Anxiety, AKA General Anxiety Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is a psychological disorder that can torment and debilitate its sufferers not to mention the upheaval and anguish it brings to family and loved ones. Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) and/or Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) treatment is standard. If this sounds like the above information describes you or a loved one, I would love to work along side you. You don't have to walk alone in your journey with mental health.

I work with individuals struggling with a range of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. They seek to free themselves from constraints imposed by their anxiety. Through a thorough yet compassionate evaluation, I help clients understand their anxiety. People who reach out to an anxiety specialist like myself are ready to move beyond discussing their anxiety—they are eager to take effective action. They want a tailored, evidence-based treatment plan, focusing on practical, action-oriented strategies. They are seeking to live the life they want, liberated from the constraints of anxiety.

I specialize in treating OCD and other anxiety spectrum disorders (Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Health Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Specific Phobias).
Have you noticed that it's in the places you are supposed to be most relaxed (meditation, vacation, weekends, sleep) that your mind feels louder than ever? It might feel like the idea of letting your thoughts go is meant for “normal” people and that does not include you. Maybe you stand guard to keep yourself from your worst case, as if your attention to your thoughts keeps you from descending into unimaginable fear. All the advice you get from those closest to you feels so out of touch with the agony of daily doubts around the things that matter most. I can help you sift through the noise and regain your confidence in yourself.

In my practice, I work most often with young adults, specializing in anxiety, depression, life transitions, as well as a specialty in the treatment of OCD.
My therapeutic style is warm and collaborative. In my practice, I help clients develop insight into cognitive beliefs and behavioral patterns that no longer serve them. Maybe you’ve been experiencing depression, anxiety, challenges in relationships or you’ve been stuck in cycles that you struggle to make sense of, cannot seem to break. I am passionate about supporting clients through this healing. I meld both cognitive therapies as well as bringing into awareness the mind-body connection, helping clients heal the impacts of these experiences on the body, as it is my belief that focusing on the mind is just one piece to the puzzle.

Currently, I'm mostly using Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with my clients. When, as a child, we find ourselves traumatizing or trapped in negative circumstances, parts of our self system compensate by locking away that which at that time was too much for us to handle. Later, if we do not go back to this locked away material, the pain, confusion and injustice of what happened to us long ago, can get triggered, or, awakened, when similar such challenges arise in the present. IFS provides a safe way for that locked away material to be approached and reprocessed, allowing our core self to take back control of our lives.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
