I specialize in treating OCD and Anxiety related disorders which I have extensive experience working with in treatment centers and helping clients through Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and ACT.
Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or burdened by the many curveballs life throws at you? You're not alone, a fully lived life inevitably includes difficult experiences which can lead to emotional distress, intrusive thoughts, or avoidance. Feelings of anxiety and depression can seem like they own us and control our lives, but they don't have to. Rather than be a victim of our feelings we can learn to manage our experience of living with them instead of numbing out with Netflix binges or substance use. We can get back in the driver's seat of our life's journey and start living our best lives!

My areas of specialty include trauma, OCD, addiction, marginalized identities and cultural issues.
Welcome! I enjoy helping clients explore their identities and experiences in more depth in order to integrate more adaptive ways to heal from past wounds and live a more intentional and fulfilling life. In our work together, my goal is to help you cultivate greater awareness, identify and discard unhelpful patterns and create new avenues of change. Therapy with me is a dynamic, collaborative and slowed down process that acts as a container to safely explore and metabolize pain in a new way. I operate from a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens, with an emphasis in upholding anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming practices.

I specialize in helping men with distressing sexual feelings and behaviors, especially those with same-sex sexualized attachments and OCD, to pursue psychological and spiritual healing, in order to live more joyfully.
Are you struggling with sexual identity questions? Do you feel burdened by excessive religious or moral fears? Do you desire to live life more joyfully, free from obsessive compulsive scrupulosity?! Many people contact with experiences of unwanted sexual feelings and behaviors. As a clinician trained in Reintegrative Therapy, which is an evidence-based approach shown to treat trauma memories and trigger spontaneous shifts in client’s sexual feelings as a result, I believe people deserve access to therapeutic support which will help them resolve sexual difficulties in a manner in line with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

I’m a trauma-informed licensed clinical social worker, specializing in adults with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and/or OCD.
Life is HARD. It’d be great if we were each given an individualized user manual from the moment we were born, but that’s not how life works (unfortunately). Even though we don’t come with our own set of instructions for living our best life, we DO have the option to seek support from experts who can make our healing journey feel a bit more doable. Realizing that we are worthy of a better life, one filled with joy and fulfillment, is truly the hardest step. The next hardest step is asking for help, and you’re doing that right now by searching for a therapist! Whether you choose to work with me or find someone else, I’m proud of you!

At Community West we conduct a thorough assessment to determine the severity of a person’s OCD using the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale.
OCD is a debilitating condition that consists of irrational or excessive fears and concerns that become obsessive and manifest as intrusive, unwanted, disturbing thoughts, images or impulses. These obsessions are accompanied by repetitive and time-consuming mental and behavioral acts called rituals or compulsions that are done to prevent bad things associated with the obsessions from happening. Avoidance is the third component of OCD, which involves deliberately staying away from things, people and places that trigger or worsen obsessive fears and concerns, or to avoid the risk of some dreaded event.

I work with adults who experience depression, anxiety disorders (agoraphobia, panic disorder, social anxiety, specific phobias), OCD, relationship challenges or loss, phase-of-life stressors, procrastination, & LGBTQ or Race related trauma.
Compared to many other psychologists, my therapy style may be more goal oriented, assertive, and with a stronger focus on observing and measuring therapeutic progress over longer term emotional processing. My approach is based on my belief that we do have the power to create healthy emotions & dismantle unwanted emotions. When meeting with you, I'll want to understand how your ongoing circumstances, emotions, behaviors, or thoughts impact the short term as well as the overall outcomes in your life. I base my treatment on evidenced-based inventions, eastern & wellness perspectives, and a conscious awareness approach.

As an experienced specialists, I would never report OCD intrusive thoughts.
You are tired of having intrusive thoughts that make you wonder “what if” about every little thing. You desperately want to stop checking things over and over. Deep in your heart you worry: "Is this really who I am?" You are terrified of talking about all this. You don't want to be labeled a "bad person" or even falsely reported to authorities. You just want someone to make you feel certain that none of your scary thoughts or fears will come true.

I’m passionate about helping teens, adults and couples going through emotional difficulties resulting from low self-esteem, ADHD, anxiety, phobias, OCD, communication issues and LGBTQIA+ identities.
Difficult conversations are my specialty. I offer a compassionate and accepting space for my clients to explore the stressors that keep them from being who they want to be. The adults and adolescents that I work with often come to me feeling stuck and uncertain about how to best navigate important decisions in their lives. By connecting to your desires, your needs and yourself, you can learn to put yourself first and live your life for you. Throughout this process, you can count on me to shine a light on even the littlest of wins while you experiment with new ways of navigating the world.

With great care and understanding, I will lead you through the steps necessary to manage the hold OCD has on your life.
If obsessions and compulsions are getting in the way of you living your life fully, I'm so glad you're here, and I would be honored to support you. Living with OCD can make it challenging to show up in your relationships, to do your job, and to show up in life. I use evidence-based treatments, including Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help my clients change their relationships with their thoughts and unwanted compulsions so they can get back to life.

I currently offer an online OCD group.
Many of us recognize our lives lack fulfillment. We long for love, belonging and feelings of success. We crave peace of mind. Trauma and negative schemas often make achieving our goals difficult and we find ourselves right back where we started, as if in a loop. More than ever, we need someone to hear us. Luckily, Mental Health awareness has increased and you are in the right place to find help. My group practice includes myself and two other fantastic therapists, Ryan Muldoon AMFT and Gabrielle Amoils Pollak LMFT

If you or your child suffer from OCD or other anxiety disorders, you're not alone. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness, yet most sufferers don't receive proper, evidence-based treatment. OCD/anxiety can cause problems socially, academically, professionally, and create chaos with family members. The good news is that there is help. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has repeatedly shown to be the most effective approach for defeating OCD and anxiety. CBT creates new neuro-pathways by changing the way you think and behave. It's basically exercise for the brain. The more you flex those brain muscles, the stronger you become.

I specialize in working with self esteem, anxiety, life transitions, and OCD.
Do you find yourself trying to make everyone around you happy, even if that means you go unseen? You worry people won’t like you if you don’t get everything just right and even still you never feel appreciated for everything you do. And when someone does recognize your efforts? You hide from the spotlight, protesting that it wasn’t a big deal anyway. Everytime you put the work in or try something new, that nagging voice says “not good enough, try harder”, so you stay in your comfort zone. Turns out, the comfort zone isn’t very comfortable. Other people say you seem so put together, but when you look around, all you see is failure.

If you're interested in working on hair pulling and/or skin picking, please also check my website and blog HelpForHairPullers.
I work with clients on issues ranging from depression, anxiety, OCD, addiction to relationship, career and identity issues and I work with couples. I’ve had a specialty in hair pulling and skin picking since 2001: See my website.  I use many theories in my work—psychodynamic, Jungian dreamwork and mindfulness practice to name a few—but my style is existential humanistic, working in the present. I see the ultimate goal as supporting you in living from an authentic, empowered place, feeling a sense of inner security, hearing and trusting your true inner voice—not the inner critic—and having a strong sense of self to guide you in life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
