Apart from specializing in anxiety, depression and trauma my work experience focuses on helping people who are struggling with chronic pain due to accident or persistent conditions.
I am a licensed clinical social worker and I have worked in the Western New York community since 1997. Over the years, I have treated many different people, from different backgrounds, with varying issues. Since my career experience in the field primarily comes from working with several different agencies over the course of my career, I have experience in providing therapy to people presenting with different issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, chronic pain and trauma. I have also worked with those whose mental health is impacted by dual-diagnosis issues. My experience includes working with adolescents and adults.

I specialize in management of anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.
Worry, sadness, and uncertainty are natural responses to feeling you can't control parts of your life. Often regaining control feels like it requires giving up something else, whether it is time with family and friends, your passions, or last night's sleep. While dark humor, caffeine, and willpower may get you far, you shouldn’t have to give up the best parts of your life to just survive. No matter how you got here, you are the expert on yourself. My responsibility is to create a supportive and attentive space where you can gain perspective and resume growth.

I work in particular with all types of mood disorders, chronic pain management and with couples.
Feeling overwhelmed and feel your thoughts and moods run your life? And do you feel this prevents you from living life to its fullest? I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (R), and have been a therapist since 2008. I can begin therapy within 1 week of your initial call! Often through sharing our thoughts and struggles with a skilled, empathetic professional, hope can be restored. Also, by learning a few key thinking strategies and other simple mental techniques, together we can reduce and eliminate the feelings of being powerless over how our minds automatically can work against us. NOTE: Couples sessions are cash only - $150.

Come, tell me everything, I will listen with an open heart. Life is too short to have an inner voice not be our best friend. A favorite quote of mine by Heraclitus is: “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.” An ancient phrase of wisdom that speaks incredible truth. It is my intention to affect those living and coping with often self-imposed restrictions or images of themselves. I will redirect, refocus and reframe negative feelings and internal dialogue that hold you back from uplifting mental health and helpful contributions to society.

I provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for a variety of mental health conditions. CBT is a goal focused therapy that involves techniques like learning coping strategies, tracking thinking patterns, and changing daily routines. You might be a good fit for this type of treatment if you have a particular set of symptoms you'd like to reduce (e.g., depression, anxiety, insomnia) or if you have a specific life stressor you'd like to address (e.g., experience of physical or sexual violence, combat, exposure to trauma in the workplace). I provide therapy exclusively via telehealth because I want to make treatment easier to access.

When we're at our best we can take on new challenges with enthusiasm rather than fear. Bruce Lee said, "You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip or it can crash. Be like water my friend." Counseling is one way you can improve you're ability to face challenges or "be like water..." Together we can enhance your strengths to allow you to experience the changes you want to see in your life. Now providing telehealth only HIPAA-compliant video appointments.

If you’re reading this, you already have the motivation to heal, the insight to know you need a change and the resourcefulness to seek support. You knew enough to get yourself to this page and I know enough to take you through the journey you may be scared of and yet eager for. Working as a specialist in eating disorders and trauma, I understand the highs and lows of being self-critical to the point of self-punishment, blaming yourself for the situation you are in and being stuck in an endless cycle of overriding your gut instinct in order to please others. Recognize that your intuition got you to these words.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
