I help avoid hospitalization with suicidal concerns or self-injury.
People need people. Trust your gut to know that something led you to reach out. You are stronger than you feel. It's possible for things to be different. What happened does not have to define you. I specialize in helping with depressive struggles to feel connected again and empowered. I work to build self-esteem back. Speaking the truth can feel like a weight is finally lifted. Grounding techniques can help you feel more in control. You deserve to be listened to right now.

As a Mental Health Advocate, I give speeches all over the nation to reduce stigma around Mental Health and encourage people to seek professional counseling, rather than “just talking to a friend about it or not talk about their problems at all”. As a Pakistani, Muslim immigrant who came to America with no knowledge of mental health, I understand how the confusion of identities, societal pressure to fit in and cultural differences can create emotional turmoil. Being in the mental health field for over 7 years, has allowed me to evolve as a Mental Health public speaker, who helps those with anxiety, depression and suicidal ideations,

Life isn’t always easy, and can be even less so in these uncertain times. There are disappointments and victories, trying struggles, periods of blissful calm and resounding joy. Remaining mindful, open, motivated, and passionate, both about who you are, and the people and things that you love, requires ongoing focus and attention to self. An objective figure to assist you in facing your fears, accessing your internal motivation, refining your perspective, and ongoing maintenance of your emotional well being and functioning can be crucial in that endeavor.

I am sure that if you are looking through this site it is for yourself, someone in your care, or someone you know who may need help. If this is true, do not hesitate or wait, thinking it might go away or get better on its own. You have already done the first step toward healing and recovery. Reaching out and accepting help is hard but sometimes, we really can not do it on our own. It is not because we are unmotivated, stupid, or weak-it is because we can be fighting battles that are bigger then ourselves.

Life’s transitions, especially during young adulthood, can be challenging. Feelings of isolation and a lack of belonging can cause immense suffering. With nearly two decades of experience working with adolescents and young adults, I’m dedicated to guiding individuals through the complexities of transitioning into adulthood. Through collaborative and client-centered methods, I aid clients in making positive changes by examining and working through unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
