I am currently accepting new clients! I enjoy working with a variety of individuals at different stages of "readiness" to change. I have experience in a variety of settings, working primarily with adolescents and adults. I utilize psychodynamic therapy with experience and training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I really try to tailor treatment to the individual and their needs. I utilize mindfulness, distress tolerance, opposite action, interpersonal skills and emotion regulation skills to influence positive changes in daily life.

My therapeutic orientation is integrative, strongly grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy and utilizing elements of transference focused psychotherapy (TFP), relational, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I work from a Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, and solution focused perspective.
Everyone goes through periods of sadness, loss, anger, and adjustment to new situations. You are not alone in your struggles. Don’t allow anger, and resentment that grows from adversity to impair your ability to live your true life! Life can throw some curve balls and having the skills to maneuver these unpredictable situations is paramount in the healing process. Realizing you are not alone and finding a compassionate person to assist you through your struggle are the first steps. The next step is being present in therapy, willing to engage as we learn new skills to navigate this unpredictable world together. I will stand with you.

As a therapist, I strive to create a non-judgmental space where my clients can freely express themselves and deepen their understanding of who they are and what they wish for. I view therapy as a collaborative journey where therapist and client (maybe you and I!) can build a genuine, trusting partnership that facilitates exploration, understanding, self expression and most importantly self compassion. I work with adults, adolescents and children struggling to navigate a wide variety of experiences and diagnoses.

You've taken the first step towards self care and inner growth! This may have been difficult and shows tremendous strength. Glad you're here! Therapy is a wonderful path to help you access inner healing, processing, and expression with the unconditional support of your therapist. My clients are those who recognize that talk therapy alone will not solve their current issues. They are often curious about, or want support to help reduce and manage their current symptoms. Many of my clients struggle with unresolved trauma, anxiety, emotional management and regulation, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, and identity.

We are all the products of our earliest emotional conditioning. A majority of us do not come from ideal upbringings due to the complexities of parenting. As a result, we all experience, and become accustomed to, varying levels of irritation and develop a "pushing away" defense to real intimacy. Because of this common dynamic, many people become creatures of maladaptive habits and develop destructive habits, ego deficits, and severe intimacy issues. If this sounds familiar to you, please consider calling me.

Hello! I’m Danyele Ferrara, LMSW, and I’m truly passionate about helping individuals and families find their path to mental wellness. My journey into mental health began after realizing that my previous career wasn’t giving me the fulfillment I craved. I started my professional journey working with children with severe mental health issues and their families to navigate mental health challenges.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
