My approach begins with guiding female young adults and adults in understanding and managing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we establish a safe and supportive relationship for optimal self-learning and personal growth. Individuals are taught and encouraged to practice self-regulation skills and techniques to improve outlook and quality of life. I use humor and a lighthearted approach, when appropriate, to bring a sense of comfort and ease to sessions.

You are feeling STUCK, and a block keeps happening that keeps you from moving forward in your life. You have lived so much life, but memories, shame, and those tough feelings come back to remind you more than you care to admit. Life has thrown you huge curveballs, and yet you can’t figure out why you struggle with everyday tasks as simple as making a clarity-filled decision. Not only that, but your body reminds you often of the stress it is under- even when you’ve done every coping skill you can think of. Breathing? Nope. Counting to ten? Forget it. You deserve to dig deeper. You deserve to rip off the band-aids.

When you find yourself overwhelmed, stressed out, and unfulfilled, sometimes it feels easier to stay stuck in the daily grind of life than take the frightening step of figuring out what direction you are meant to go. You begin to realize that the life you have feels so different then how you expected it to be, leaving you feeling lost and stuck. You want to start reconnecting with who you are and what is important to you. If you are open to change in any area of your life, including mind-body connection, physical wellness, personal and professional development and relationships and communication, you are in the right place.

Therapy is most meaningful when you have a clear understanding of the work being done, and can see how a specific approach aligns with your values and goals. Since there are no one-size-fits-all solutions, we'll try and track approaches tailored to your individual needs, keep the ones that help, and avoid painful repetition of strategies that don't help. Together, we will aim to build a process that works, and move at a mutually agreed upon pace and direction toward clarity, understanding, and change.

I am a psychologist specializing in treating anxiety, including panic attacks and phobias, trauma, sleep issues, and perinatal mental health concerns. I create space in psychotherapy to process traumatic or difficult medical experiences through pregnancy and postpartum, unexpected loss and disappointments, and identity and self-esteem changes that come often along with motherhood. Other clinical areas of focus include depressed mood, ADHD, and obsessive compulsive disorder. Although I have training across the lifespan, I primarily work with adults and children ages 4 to 8.

I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, sleep problems, parenting support, and school avoidance.
Life is never a straight forward path. We encounter ups, downs, curveballs and all sorts of detours along the way. Sometimes we need support with those challenges, regardless of how big or small. This can be in the form of starting a new school, relationship problems, family discord, anxiety, depression or simply going through a new phase in life. Though we don't know what life will bring us, together we can work on how to better manage stressors, anxious thoughts, focus, repairing relationships and getting back on track to the life we want to have.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
