I believe that many difficulties are related to our unconscious thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and the unhealthy defenses that we erect, usually in childhood, to protect ourselves against hurt. Once helpful, but now outdated, these defenses prevent self-awareness and the constructive resolution of our problems. These blocks to awareness can contribute to symptoms such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, addictive behaviors, etc. I can assist you in developing healthier coping skills, i.e, to identify your defenses, explore your underlying feelings, and rediscover your authentic self.

I enjoy working with people of all ages who are experiencing "life" & the stressors that come with it. Especially the older teen, young adult, Gen X & Millenials - life is a journey that none of us are particularly prepared for & there comes a time when a caring ear & an outside professional perspective can truly help. life happens - its how we cope with it that matters most! i work with common issues such as relationship stressors, family conflicts, school life issues, life changes, life planning, behavioral challenges, parenting stressors as well as adults struggling with career issues and in need of basic life coaching.

Sometimes there is a concrete event or change we can point to as the cause for increased anxiety, depressed mood or relationship conflicts and we just need some support as we transition and adjust to these changes. However, some people may experience a chronic sense of disconnection, low self-worth, persistent sadness or confusing stress responses that impact various areas of their life. Therapy can provide support, resources & tools in order to work through current struggles, resolve past injuries or address underlying and persistent issues that prevent us from living a fulfilling life.

I am so excited that you are considering therapy, whether it is your first time or you are returning! It is such a strength to recognize when you may benefit from additional support and have the courage to ask for help. Many of the clients I work with sometimes struggle to see their own strengths and need help navigating personal challenges standing in the way of achieving their goals.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us....And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson. Fear of failure, fear of the past and fear of the unknown can hold us back from becoming our best selves. Change is hard and loss is even harder. Our thoughts and feelings can sometimes be so overwhelming that it seems hard to move forward in life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
