In my 28 years as a psychotherapist, it continues to be a humbling experience to witness my clients transform into the person they never believed they could be. I understand how difficult it is to come into therapy and why it is so important for me to build a safe and trusting relationship with you. I take a down to earth and respectful therapeutic approach to create a welcoming and healing environment. I am committed to helping my clients become the best version of themselves by tailoring my theraputic approach to fit the unique needs of each individual, couple or family.

I incorporate family systems, attachment theory, and 12-step informed practice into much of my work.
I am committed to creating a soft, genuine, relational space for my clients to get to know their inner systems. I have a graduate degree in Social Work, and I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have been engaged with the IFS model for over nine years, and it is the primary model I use for psychotherapeutic work. I have assisted as a staff member on three Level 1 IFS trainings, helping other therapists and practitioners learn the model.

Relationships are one of the most difficult experiences we bravely engage in as humans. Misunderstandings, inflexible thinking, our own limited ability to engage as well as others limited ability, and trauma, all affect the evolving dynamics of relating to one another. Oh man, it's hard stuff. But we also want and long to be in a relationship. How do we do this simultaneously, avoid and attach? Well, it is a delicate balance and a work of art. I can help you explore the dance of relationships with your partner, family, or children.

I specialize in anxiety, ADHD and helping parents navigate their child's developmental diagnosis. I conduct CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), TF-CBT (trauma-focused CBT), ABA (behavioral therapy), solution-focused therapy, and structural and strategic family therapy. I love learning about neurobiology and the effects that stress has on the brain. A client can expect to encounter a warm, compassionate, and encouraging soul who has a dry sense of humor and tends to address problems in a straightforward manner.

in Marriage & Family Therapy which provides me the framework to explore how relationships and social identity affect worldview and how people present themselves.
Sometimes we feel invisible to ourselves and within our social networks. We don't often get the opportunity to slow down and reflect on what we want for ourselves rather than what society or our families have taught us to prioritize. I help people feel seen and heard and to develop a sense of their presence and impact in the world and within their most important relationships.

I have openings for new couples NOW! I am passionate about all things “relationship.” I believe that we are in relationship to everything, all the time. The trouble is that no one teaches us how to DO relationships well. We need to learn about what makes the patterns in our relationship heathy or harmful. Each of us has the power to grow our relationships into something beautiful. I am here to teach you HOW! I have spent many years researching and studying what makes relationships last, what makes them grow and what makes them end. I am determined to help guide you and your partner to your highest relationship potential possible.

I believe that each person holds within themselves everything they need to heal and grow in the ways they would like. I see the therapist's role as being one in which provides an environment of safety and care where the client can explore themselves authentically. It is through this authentic exploration, that the therapist can help the client discover how patterns and ways of being are keeping the client stuck and resulting in suffering. By bringing into awareness these aspects, the client and therapist can then work collaboratively to release the pain and explore new ways of being.

2,500 years ago Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." He believed a good life requires an understanding of why we think, act, and feel as we do. Since relationship is part of psychotherapy, the personalities and philosophies of life of the client and therapist must be compatible. I am well-suited for clients who are curious about human behavior - their own as well as that of others. Before there were psychologists, the issues of life were addressed by philosophers. Thoroughly examining life includes considering ancient wisdom and spiritual reality as well as psychology (the science of mind and behavior).

Despite all of your efforts to make changes in your life you may still be unhappy, discouraged, or lost. We often develop ways in life to distance ourselves from our emotional pain. While these strategies undoubtedly can provide temporary relief, they never heal the origin of our underlying pain in any profound way. In my opinion, meaningful change comes from honestly addressing and healing the core issue(s) of our lives. As we all know, honestly facing ourselves can be a tricky and difficult process. It takes courage, determination, and a willingness to be open and vulnerable to heal. This can be very difficult to do alone.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
