I use an integrative and person-centered approach & specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, internal family systems, and mindfulness techniques.
I work with any who has been experiencing symptoms of Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Depression, & Co-Dependency and/or has been struggling with life transitions, personal growth and self-esteem. What makes me different from other therapists? My care is genuine. I am someone that will not only care about your symptoms, but will want to know you as a whole person. I am direct in my approach, and will help you make those tough & important connections. And while therapy can be clinical, it should be collaborative & casual and I will provide a safe space to laugh and/or cry without fear of judgement.

I utilize what, in my experience, are the most effective treatment methods based on the cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and mindfulness schools of therapy.
As a psychotherapist and healer for many years it has been my privilege to offer and provide help and comfort to people in distress. Experience has taught me that we all struggle to recover from the pains of the past, deal with the challenges of the present and the insecurities of the future, in our efforts to live the best lives that we can. This often seems very difficult if not impossible to accomplish alone. A strong and nurturing therapeutic relationship is a powerful and stable foundation for dealing with these challenges to our well-being, especially in these very troubling and uncertain times.

The greatest discovery I have made in life is to embrace the unexpected, to crave the twists and turns as much as the great joys of life, and to lead with curiosity. Life can often feel scary, and we may face challenges that leave us feeling like there is nowhere to turn. If you find yourself feeling this way, you are not alone. Whether you are dealing with feelings of great sadness, anxiousness that feels uncontrollable, or struggling to move past an event in your life you have turned to the right place. Seeking therapy can lead to a greater understanding of yourself, the world around you, and the person you want to be.

I specialize in providing integrated EMDR to LGBTQ+ youth and adults, who are struggling with complex trauma and feeling disturbed by painful past experiences. They most often feel like they are a burden, incompetent or often find themselves endlessly ruminating over worst case scenarios. Therapy is initiated when they realize that they are ready to stop spiraling and begin experiencing a sense of grounding and connection. There has been an acknowledgement that they do not have to stay stuck. Their desire to feel confident, secure, and live authentically outweighs the fear to work through their pain.

Are you feeling lonely or isolated even though you're in a relationship? Do you yearn for the love, intimacy, and closeness that you used to have with your partner? Do you feel like the bond you shared has become more of a burden than a source of care? It's often said that "relationships take work," but you might be unsure of what that means, especially if nothing you've tried has seemed to help. Perhaps you're starting to think that it's too late to repair your relationship. As a marriage and family therapist, my focus is on helping you build a stronger relationship through recognizing negative communication patterns.

As a lifelong learner, I follow my intuition and beliefs. I have a bachelor’s degree in philosophy that provides an in-depth understanding of humanity and the evolution of ideas. I also graduated in social communications and journalism that informs my desire and efforts to be a strong advocate for social justice. I have employment experience as both a teacher of philosophy and a reporter. I moved to New York to experience the city’s diverse social and cultural movements and to further develop my own personal self-understanding. To fulfill this goal, I graduated in a master’s degree in social work, with a major in psychotherapy.

I help driven, ambitious but burnt-out adults reconnect with their authentic selves, so that they can experience more joy and connection in their careers, relationships and bodies. You might be seeking out help because you recognize that you dismiss your achievements or struggle with impostor syndrome. Or constant comparison with others is driving you crazy. I get it - feeling stuck in the hamster wheel of your inner critic, anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing and comparison is exhausting and confusing. You don’t have to work on this alone.

Working on important relationships— whether together or apart— can be an incredibly rewarding journey. We’ll start where you are and what brought you to this point, including what you’ve tried so far. Then, we will look more closely for both default choices that create patterns of ineffective dynamics and responses, as well as successful moments where you are able to make effective decisions about how you want to respond to a person or situation. This will involve looking at all kinds of habits: behavioral, mental, interpersonal. Enter: the power of choice.

Where there’s pain, there’s an unmet need. Maybe that unmet need is connection with others, or self-worth, or courage, or something else. I’ve learned this through my own experience with social anxiety—a decade of low self-esteem, overthinking my appearance, isolating from friends, feeling too anxious to begin relationships. It totally sucked. But my turning point came with therapy that gave me a kind of insight and inspiration that nothing else did. So, I hope I'll give you a space as helpful as the one I received.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
