Do you feel stuck and can’t quite figure out what to do? Are you struggling with anxiety or sadness? Do you feel alone? Are you wondering why everything is so hard? Do you feel guilt or shame? Is “negative self-talk” or "an inner critic" something you completely understand? Do you have difficulty making decisions and often feel like you don't know what to do next? Finding the right therapist for yourself can be confusing and overwhelming. The very idea of sharing can be scary. I am here to help you figure out how to begin. Talking to someone is the right thing to do and I can help you move forward. Help is within your reach.

Loss, trauma, and other life changes can completely shift the path in which we’d imagined for ourselves leading to feelings of despair, isolation, and hopelessness. You may be wondering how you'll ever feel like yourself again or how you'll navigate this new terrain. We will develop a plan to navigate through what is and what that which was and through the darkness and despair we can also find glimmers of light, hope, and goodness. Life can be truly bittersweet as we how hold both sorrow and joy simultaneously to create a rich, meaningful life, remaining connected to those we love and that which is truly important to us.

Hello, my name is Dan Depasquale, LMSW. After realizing that becoming a teacher was not for me, and experiencing the impact that therapy had on my life, I decided to pursue social work and specialize in helping others, specifically pre teens and older struggling with anxiety, teens adjusting to adult life, and those struggling with the problematic use of modern technology (social media, smartphones, etc.). I have worked with adults of all ages and children as young as 5 years old. However most of my clinical experience has been with teenagers and up. Developing a good therapeutic relationship is particularly important.

I specialize in ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) and believe in the healing power of nature, love, and connection to restore our inherent resiliency and wisdom. Life can jolt us out of our comfort zone when we least expect it. Tragedies come in many forms (illness, death, deception) forcing us into unfamiliar territory of uncertainty. We may question the fundamental assumptions upon which we built our lives or our capacity to move forward in search of a new normal. You have what it takes to find your path and you're not alone! If you feel like you're on a spiritual path, my approach may be a good fit.

I’ve provided traditional talk therapy for many years and I am excited to offer a different approach! Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative approach that combines the use of ketamine with therapy to facilitate healing and therapeutic breakthroughs. Struggling with substance use disorders can often be lonely, isolating and confusing. There is a lot of help offered out there, but so often what's being offered can be confusing and conflicting. Is addiction a behavior? A spiritual malady? A disease? Or is it something more? My own path of recovery took me many attempts and eventually led me to school to seek the science behind substance use disorders, to recovery rooms, to many therapists for personal recovery, and to lots of different religious avenues in search of meaning and understanding. What I found has illuminated my own path and practice. I love to pass these insights on.

I do not see my job as telling you what to do, but to help you quiet the noise that gets in the way of hearing your own voice. In our work together, you will find support and patience as you walk through whatever cross-roads life presents in front of you. You will have the freedom to explore yourself, your life and your experiences. I believe that everyone I work with is the expert on their own life so for this reason, I feel the best way to serve my clients is to work as a mirror; assisting people in transformation through reflection. It can be difficult to reach out and ask for help. Still, with openness, courage, and vulnerability, we can work together to help address whatever hurt, challenges, or life events you face. I am here if you feel sad, stressed out, have trouble coping, or need someone to listen. I will gather a comprehensive health and background history to understand the struggles and how they have impacted you. Then, I will apply a strength-based integrative approach, pulling on different interventions to explore the core issues affecting your life; together, we will identify strategies to restore you to health and wholeness.

I feel very blessed to have witnessed healing and growth in many, many clients throughout my career. I believe that counseling is a partnership between the client and therapist to achieve symptom relief and personal growth. I have over twenty years of experience with a significant focus in the area of child abuse and neglect (with both children and adult survivors). Many times, what "happened to you" results in the common stress reactions of anxiety and depression. Whatever brings you to the counseling process, I respect your bravery and willingness to change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
