Clients often seek my support when feeling "stuck" and overwhelmed. I empower them to break free from these patterns through strategic short-term goals and long-term healing solutions. I specialize in helping clients overcome anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, parenthood difficulties, and childhood trauma. I am a practicing Catholic Christian and offer therapy from the Christian worldview for those who seek it, but this is not exclusive. I have been practicing for over 20 years as a social worker. I work with adolescents and older teenagers, as well as adults. Through my career, I have built an exceptional skillset which I use each day with each individual client. Reaching out for assistance can be overwhelming. Taking the first step is usually the hardest.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed with an unwanted change, unmet expectations, or a significant health diagnosis such as cancer or a chronic illness? These experiences impact how we cope and live our lives. Healing is not always linear, but it is possible; finding a therapist that you connect well with and where you feel comfortable is a vital part of that healing. People can sometimes struggle to find a space that is just theirs to be able to process the good, the bad and the in between... but our sessions together can be just that. Your space and time to have a moment to focus on your needs.

Life events can impact us in ways we couldn’t have imagined and at times we least expect it. These events can elicit parts of us that experience confusion, anxiety, overwhelm, and sadness or lead us to fall into patterns that may not make sense. Perhaps you’d like support to bring a sense of clarity, connection, and confidence within yourself and within your relationships, or to develop and heighten a passion and vitality for life. I recognize that your goals are unique to you and are honored in the therapeutic process.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
