Therapy is a collaborative partnership that functions optimally when there is a positive, working alliance and authentic attachment between a client and therapist. Goals must be focused and must reflect the issues that are most compelling for the client. A therapist should be nonjudgmental, empathetic and present. Respect for each client's journey supports the development of trust and connection, allowing each client to develop a new and empowering narrative that helps them to reshape their lives.

Learn to treat yourself with the same kindness you so easily extend to others! You may have previously examined your childhood issues in therapy yet still struggle with your self-esteem. You may judge yourself harshly, placing your needs last. You may experience difficulties in relationships or dealing with painful transitions, or feel you have lost your sense of self. My nearly 20 years as a Clinician coupled with advanced training allows me to work with you on a meaningful and compassionate level you have not experienced previously. Learn to appreciate your sensitivities and vulnerabilities as strengths, not weaknesses.

You feel a knot in your stomach, worried about every choice you make. When you think about your loved one who passed, you feel your heart breaking in your chest. After many years as part of a “we”, the new adjective of "single” is way more painful to hear than anticipated. Just a handful of weeks ago, you were a college student, and now you find yourself in the real world, with new, scary, adult responsibilities. You have swapped your tried and true professional skillset for your "doing your best" parental responsibilities as a new, stay at home parent. While change is challenging and painful, you want to be able to endure it.

"Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." - C.G. Jung. The process of self-reflection can both be illuminating and freeing. By shining the light of awareness on that which is unknown, you are on the path to personal growth and unlocking your innate potential. Do you feel stuck and overwhelmed? Do you desire balance within your own being? Or as if you are merely existing rather than living the life you truly wish? Taking the first step and reaching out for help is truly an exercise in courage.

Therapy should not only focus on relieving your symptoms and distress but is also about building greater capacities for dealing with life's inevitable stresses and anxieties. I believe it is important to actively collaborate with you to find out what it is you want from therapy and to periodically evaluate the progress toward these goals. I look to tailor each person's therapy to their specific presenting problems and goals so that they will be able to feel better and feel more capable in facing life's challenges.

I work with individuals and couples and I specialize in working with stepfamilies. Most of my individual clients are living very productive lives, but struggling with things like anxiety, depression and relationship issues. Together we'll explore why you may be feeling stuck, and help you gain clarity to move forward.

We'll work eclectically, utilizing approaches such as Integrative/Holistic, Humanistic, CBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based CT, and others to help you manifest the changes you desire.
In the blink of an eye, the world has changed overnight. You may be struggling with insomnia or moods that upset you and that are damaging your intimate, family, and peer relationships. Recent changes in society and your living situation may have triggered life transitions which have sorely stretched your ability to cope. You may feel stuck in a repetitive cycle, making the same mistakes over and over without understanding why and feeling powerless to make productive and positive changes. Maybe you feel traumatized or that choice has been taken from you and you are grasping at regaining some semblance of normalcy in your life.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
