Have you tried talk therapy and haven't experienced the results you were wanting? Many people that I see have tried talk therapy for years and said that the integrative approach that they experience with me is the first time they are seeing the results that they wanted. My philosophy holds at its foundation an unshakable trust in your resilience. There is a place in everyone that is innately resilient: present, regulated, and capable of being with any pain, fear, and vulnerability. I will guide you to connect to your resilience which is an empowering way to heal, as you will leave with a greater trust in yourself. daniellecarron.com

I hold an MSW from Columbia University and BA from the University of California, Berkeley. I enjoy seeing patients in-person in a world that has become unhealthfully dependent upon online experiences. Anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma and couples issues are my focus. My experience includes working on-staff as a psychotherapist at Stony Brook Hospital Psychiatric & Detox Units, The Dunes East Hampton, Quannacut Addiction Rehab Eastern Long Island and in private practice for almost two decades. My column, "Thoughts from a Therapist" appears in the East Hampton Press, Southampton Press, Sag Harbor Express and online at 27east.

Struggling to keep up with life’s unexpected shifts? All changes, even positive ones, can disrupt our lives and force us to adjust to a new version of ourselves. Unwanted changes often bring a range of emotions—shock, grief, anxiety, sadness, denial, anger, guilt, and more. These feelings impact our thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being, affecting concentration, decision-making, eating, and sleeping. I help adults of all ages navigate life's transitions, such as adult children leaving or returning home, retirement, downsizing, chronic or life-altering medical conditions, and both death and non-death losses.

I draw from Family Systems and Narrative Theory and incorporate mindfulness techniques, primarily through a strength-based approach.
The therapeutic journey is not about fixing yourself but about discovering your wholeness, which has been there all along. I am dedicated to working with individuals, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, stress, and interpersonal conflicts to help you navigate life’s complexities. As your therapist, I will collaborate with you to explore your inner world and rediscover your best self to achieve deep healing and emotional growth. I offer you a warm and non-judgmental environment to help you learn more about yourself and question the life stories that no longer serve you.

Therapy can help you work through problems that feel too big or overwhelming to tackle alone. Together, in a warm and confidential space, we can begin to explore what is making you feel anxious or stuck without judgement or fear. In therapy with me, you will be seen as an individual person with unique desires and experiences, not a collection of symptoms or issues. In session, you can expect liveliness and candor as we discuss the things you wish to explore: relationships, work, worries, goals and sense of self.

Covid-19 has brought the world of mental health fragility to a new level never seen before. The isolation and loneliness felt by everyone from children to the elderly has caused a rise in depression, anxiety and fear regarding every day life and the future. These strains are unhealthy emotionally and physically and need attention to avoid lasting impressions. The working relationship in therapy is to define underlying issues, stuck thought patterns and transform negative behavior to evolve into a positive and thriving attitude and consequently, life choices. We will join together to create the life you desire, as I help guide you.

Life as a neurodivergent and/or disabled person can be beautiful, wonderful, and filled with so much joy! It can also be exhausting, challenging, and involve a lot of misunderstanding from those around you. Many of us experience traumas, anxiety, depression, Autistic burnout, emotion regulation difficulties, relational difficulties, and struggles with work, school, and parenting demands. If you're looking for support in managing any of these areas, and you want to work with someone who knows how to set you up for sustainable change, you're in the right place.

My ideal client is one that is motivated for change; one that recognizes that what they have been doing or trying to do is not working presently. My ideal client is willing to consider alternatives and open-minded to possibilities. They are seeking a therapist who is oriented toward relationships, those they have with themselves and others, and with the multiple systems, contexts, and cultures within which each client exists and functions.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
