Tired of all the "talk, talk" therapy? Couples and Individuals - Thoughts, without knowing what you're feeling or being aware of body sensations is often a false narrative. Lasting change requires accessing the whole body. The body's expression of feelings and emotions may conflict with what we "think" we believe or feel. A whole-person approach is a more present moment indicator of feelings, emotions and thoughts. I can help you learn to access that important mind/body connection. This approach will guide you towards a deeper understanding of yourself and help you to mindfully experience a more fulfilling and happier life.

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Congratulations on taking the initial step towards considering the potential of seeking support. Recognizing the need for help is not simple. It involves acknowledging that we've all faced situations, trauma, or challenging life transitions that impact our emotional well-being. As a Latina bilingual Spanish Clinical Social worker with a decade of experience. I've had the privilege of serving diverse populations across various age groups and backgrounds: recently arrived immigrants, LGBTQ+, teenagers, young adults, adults, individuals with learning, intellectual disabilities and the neurodivergent community.

To others, you feel like an imposter in your career or relationships. You feel like you are flailing through life and constantly questioning yourself. Everyone seems to have it all together while you are barely making it through the day. Emotions take over a lot these days, and you have a hard time letting things go. You are not alone. I work with teens and adults struggling with stress, depression, burnout, anxiety, and moodiness. These issues often go hand in hand with self-doubt, self-sabotage, and imposter syndrome. I want to help you become more confident and develop a secure relationship with yourself and others.

I know that getting started with a new therapist and committing to working on yourself is really hard work. As you likely suspect, the benefits to your life and ripple effect of this work makes the growing pains worthwhile. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck in life, alone, or you’re dealing with emotions and situations that feel overwhelming. While these feelings can be a normal part of the human experience, it’s also valid to want guidance, support, and some additional tools to navigate them.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
