I embrace a very holistic approach to working with people, which encompasses exploring all aspects of our selves. Emotional, behavioral, biological/physical/medical, social, and spiritual factors all shape our experiences, and each provide opportunities and avenues for change when we desire that to happen.

My focus is on marriage & family therapy and maternal/perinatal support. As we journey through marriage and parenthood, we often encounter difficult experiences that leave us feeling stuck in stress, regret and confusion. Birth trauma, postpartum depression, overwhelming identity shifts and relationship problems are a few examples. Sometimes we need extra support to get through these. Contemporary culture doesn’t prioritize mothers or value marriage, contributes to mental health issues among children, and leaves families isolated and unsupported. It makes sense to feel like you need extra support. It takes courage to ask for it.

**Free 30-min Video Consultation** Being in the circus taught me that juggling too many balls in the air can lead to feeling like you're always picking up the pieces rather than enjoying the show. While our emotions float up and down, we start applying binary labels of "good" (happy) and "bad" (anger, sadness, anxiety) that our systems (e.g., US Society, Family, Culture) has assigned. Improve self-awareness of our emotions, thoughts, and the stories we tell ourselves about our worth internally, with others, and in the world. Change the Narrative you've internalized through identifying, observing, respecting, and accepting emotions.

Accepting Clients! My goal is to help you get as many aspects of your life as possible into good standing. We’ll figure out your stuck points & hurts, where they are coloring your world, & how we can change your internal narrative. I like to incorporate yogic embodiment practices, to provide a deep, transformational healing experience; breath work, visualization, mindfulness, meditation, body movement, mantras, & affirmations. By holding space for your emotions, & allowing them to be experienced in an embodied way, the ‘energy in motion’, is released, creating ease & an awareness of new thoughts, feelings & pathways forward.

Do you feel uneasy, tense, or unsafe in your own body? Trapped by your own thoughts and emotions, or a nagging feeling or muscular tension that seem unrelated to your emotional state? I know that feeling; that sensation that we try to ignore but just won’t go away. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, the stress of everyday life or the aftermath of trauma, your body is the container that holds it all—thoughts, feelings, sensations—all our lived experiences that make us who we are. Some of these experiences can help us thrive, feel safe and connected and some can make us feel stuck, uncertain, and reactive.

Our thoughts, beliefs and bodies reflect our emotional struggles. We often come to therapy when old ways of coping aren't working anymore- when we long for comfort, relief, or more authentic and deeper connections in our relationships. The whole person needs to be addressed in times of crisis, transition and loss. Healing is a word derived from the German hailjan- “to make whole.” I work with a holistic, acceptance-based and contemplative approach to psychotherapy. Practicing self-compassion and self- acceptance lead to less reactivity and more peaceful, integrated and intentional lives.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
