I operate from a feminist perspective and enjoy empowering women and girls to achieve all that they are capable of.
You've just taken the first step towards advancing your own personal growth. It can be difficult to address the painful or uncomfortable matters in our lives, but it is the only way to propel ourselves forward; to make the future stronger than the past. While the past will always play a role in shaping our future, it doesn't define it. Through counseling, we will work together to identify and overcome whatever obstacles may be in your path. With a clear mind and an empowered spirit, you'll be on your way to living a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life.

Therapy is a desired journey for self-discovery at any point in our lives, and an opportunity to access our own inner resources for self-empowerment. In my practice, I integrate Western psychotherapy interventions with Eastern methods of healing. For 25 years, my cross-cultural work and clinical experience have fostered a global perspective on mental health with deep empathy and nonjudgement. I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy, EMDR therapy, integrative somatic therapy, Satvavajaya Chikitsa (Ayurvedic), & Hakomi. My focus is trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, & other crises. I also offer life coaching.

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons - to manage relationships, to address stress and loss, to get unstuck, to heal trauma. Reaching out for support is such a courageous step, and I’m so glad you’re here! I believe strongly that everyone deserves to be fully seen – every part of them – in all their complexity and wholeness. My goal is to create a supportive and affirming environment to bear witness to the totality of your experiences – your pain, your joy, and everything in between. Together, we can process your story and the way it impacts your present, gain insight and self-compassion, and start your healing journey.

I am passionate about guiding clients on their journey to be their better self. I utilize a person-centered, trauma informed, and empowerment approach when working with clients. I believe therapy is a tool that should be afforded to all individuals, and it is important for clients to have a therapist who looks like them and/or is understanding of their cultural experiences. As a Black clinician that identifies as a cisgender woman, I prioritize working with Black clients in general and Black women and LGBTQI+ persons in particular. I also take Medi-Cal and Medi-Care insurance.

These include: client-centered therapy, narrative therapy, internal family systems therapy, anti-racism, intersectionality, feminist & queer theories, and psychodynamic therapies.
Let’s say therapy works for you, what do you imagine will be different about your life? I always ask this question in our initial session, because therapy is about helping you get where you’re trying to go. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where curiosity is natural, compassion is the baseline, and exploration is key. To do this, I believe that a positive and strong relationship between therapist and client is essential. I typically work with clients who are navigating gender identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and/or trauma—especially religious/spiritual trauma.

My group practice specializes in the treatment of trauma spectrum disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative disorders, trauma-related pain, and trauma-related somatic symptoms. Ongoing experiences of verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, neglect, and bullying can lead to these symptoms. Sometimes people suffer these effects because they have experienced chronic invalidation. We treat couples, people in non-traditional partnerships, and adolescents who struggle with emotional and behavioral problems. We also treat survivors of sexual violence and targets of workplace bullying.

It can be hard to be a person in the world sometimes, especially if you have experienced loss, survived trauma or learned that something terrible will happen if you are not "perfect." Despite being “put together” on the outside, you find yourself spending so much energy trying to stay that way that you are burning out. You want to feel better but you are getting so overwhelmed that you shut down before you even know where to start. Many of my people have these concerns when we first meet but together we are able to practice actionable steps to access joy and security in the present and reconnect with hope for the future.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
